The immediate local area is well served with pubs, shops and eateries. Really friendly and helpful host and locals. It is a place that is ideally situated for walking. We never needed to use our car once all week. The cottage is within rambling distance of Hadrian's Wall and a host of other destinations. The property provides a range of walking guides including 22 local routes detailed in the Haltwhistle Rings series of pamphlets. There is fantastic year round public transport provision (AD 122 bus up and down to all points on the wall) including a well served railway station on the Carlisle to Newcastle line. The cosy cottage is set back from the road and is therefore quiet and secluded, with a small front garden and drive. To the rear of the property is a sheltered terrace overlooking the owners well tended and enclosed garden. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property. This is attested to by the many repeat customers detailed in the visitor's book.

Claudia “Dear Sue and Nick.”
Many thanks for your warm welcome and exceptional hospitality. We really enjoyed our stay in your super cosy cottage, which was a real home from home. Also thanks for your tip regarding the concert at Wallington. Really enjoyed it and it was lovely to see Nick in his element. Should any of our friends and family want to travel to Northumberland in the future we will gladly recommend your place. For now take care until we might meet again. Pascal and Claudia
- Claudia, October 2024Thank you so much for your lovely review of Crescent Cottage, I am so pleased you had such an enjoyable holiday. Nick was delighted you went to Wallington and enjoyed hearing the Northumbrian pipes. Thank you also for your recommendation to friends. We shall be delighted to see you (or them) again sometime. With very best wishes. Sue. Property Owner

Robert “This is a delightful cottage, well equipped, warm and spacious.”
The location was excellent for our needs - digging at Magna and enjoying the shops and walks round the friendly town of Haltwhistle. Such a warm welcome with flowers, lovely scones, cream and home-made jam. The view into the enclosed garden from the kitchen and terrace was a constant pleasure. We plan to return.
- Robert, September 2024 -
Elizabeth “Property very comfortable and well equipped.”
Great access to walks and places of interest locally and further afield. Owner very helpful and friendly. Haltwhistle itself very quiet town. Shops, apart from supermarkets, close early!
- Elizabeth, August 2024 -
Richard “Crescent Cottage was comfortable and well equipped with everything in good working order.”
I particularly appreciated the easy parking and access to the garage for my bicycle. The cottage was very quiet but is in the town centre with Sainsbury’s about 4 minutes walk away. The town is well connected with bus services east and west and a surprisingly frequent service in both directions from the railway station. With nearby Hadrian’s wall and pleasant countryside Haltwhistle is great holiday destination. I would definitely recommend.

Colin James “We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.”

The cottage is a great set up, comfortable bedrooms large living room. Kitchen with fine garden area that was beautiful. Susan was a wonderful host. Train connections were very good. Haltwhistle is a great spot, pubs, grocery, a few shops and wonderful scenery out the door. If we are heading back to Hadrian's Wall we know where we will stay.

Rebecca “Staying in the lovely cottage felt just like staying with old friends.”
A warm and welcoming home from home, we lacked for nothing. We especially enjoyed the fresh scones and a hot drink after our long journey. Sue and Nick were available should the need arise both for conversation and suggestions. It’s a great base for visiting many places; a walk along the burn is a must!
- Rebecca, September 2023 -
Anthony “We can only agree with all the excellent reviews, which are fully justified.”
The cottage is very well equipped, comfortable and clean. The wifi is good There is an attractive sitting out area. Parking is easy. The "upside down" layout works very well. The cottage is very close to the town centre, but at the same time very quiet and private. Haltwhistle is at the centre of beautiful countryside and other attractions, including of course the best sections of Hadrian's Wall, and with good roads in all directions
- Anthony, August 2023 -
Claire “Comfortable accommodation in a great location.”
- Claire, July 2023 -
Patricia “Great cottage, it was very comfortable and clean; we wanted for nothing.”
The home-made scones and jam were very welcoming on our arrival. There are lots of walks directly from the cottage and places to visit by car or bus. The owners were very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this place.

Jeffrey “We didn't really know what to expect from the property described as an upside down house.”
It sounded interesting and it didn't disappoint. The cottage is very spacious and comfortable and very well appointed. There was nothing that we thought would have been nice to have but didn't and in fact I had taken several things I didn't need as they were provided. Sue and Nick were excellent hosts. They live next door and so are on hand to help with any problems (though we didn't have any). They are very friendly and willing to help with advice if asked but also give guests the space to enjoy their holiday. Haltwhistle is a great little town with a lot of amenities for its size and good rail and bus links. Its an excellent base for walking or exploring Hadrian's Wall territory. My husband was excavating at Vindolanda and the location of the cottage was perfect for this.
- Jeffrey, June 2023 -
Helen “A real home from home, with everything you could need and loads of space, internet, parking, excellent equipment and pleasant garden area.”
The little touches like dishwasher tablets and hand wash provided, and the cake to welcome us were really helpful. The location is perfect for walking the Hadrian's Wall path and seeing the best of the Roman remains as well as other general visiting this lovely area. We loved our week: thank you!
- Helen, May 2023 -
Hazel “The cottage met our needs perfectly.”
Such a delightful place, everything was spick and span. The kitchen was very well equipped, nice to have more than the basics, all quality crocks and lots of them. Sitting out on the patio was lovely, overlooking the owners beautiful garden, full of bird song. Haltwhistle is a nice regenerated, friendly town, good places to eat and buy food supplies. A great location for touring Hadrians Wall and the surrounding stunning Northumberland countryside. Buses were great too, so no need to drive all the time.
- Hazel, May 2023 -
Anne “Friendly hosts, this is a lovely warm and cosy cottage with all the facility’s required for a relaxing holiday.”
It’s jewel in the crown is it’s proximity to the beautiful Northumberland National Park, Hadrians Wall and it’s forts and museums. Spectacular in every way and not to be missed.
- Anne, October 2022 -
Henry “The cottage is in an excellent location, close to everything of Roman interest.”
The cottage itself is extremely clean warm and cosy. Every household item has been thought about, and generously provided. Couples or families can expect to enjoy a trouble free and happy holiday at this cottage and Haltwhistle. Finally, Sainsburys or fish and chips are within short walking distance!
- Henry, September 2022 -
Fiona “We had a wonderful stay at Crescent Cottage.”
Sue was extremely welcoming and gave us lots of top tips for the area. Everything was catered for in the Cottage and we didn't want for nothing. The surrounding area is beautiful and the train station only a 5 min walk away. We had days out in both Carlisle and Newcastle. Vindolanda is well worth visiting and really interesting. Thank you Sue for letting us use your Cottage. We'll definitely be recommending to others.

Linda “A lovely, cosy, well equipped and brilliantly situated cottage.”
Sue, the owner, could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The cottage is fairly centrally situated in the small town so within easy walking distance to shops, pubs and a supermarket but feels very secluded and quiet. Haltwhistle is a perfect place to stay for walkers with excellent train and bus links if you want to leave the car behind. Would highly recommend this property.
- Linda, May 2022 -

Jane “Crescent Cottage proved the perfect long weekend retreat.”
The buildings’s upside-down layout is spacious and extremely comfortable. The hosts could not be more welcoming or accommodating. Haltwhistle may well be the Centre of Britain it’s certainly at the heart of this region and its many attractions. We walked the South Tyne Trail to the elegant Lambley Viaduct, and even managed several miles of a rain-lashed Hadrian’s Wall. Allen Banks, Bewcastle and Lanercost Priory also recommended.
- Jane, November 2021 -
Jenny “We had a lovely stay.”
Our hosts were welcoming and helpful. The cottage was everything we hoped for and more. The kitchen was well appointed and had everything needed to cook full meals. The location was fantastic for exploring Northumberland.
- Jenny, August 2021 -
Andy “The accomodation was extremely clean and spacious.”
The outdoor area that overlooks the owners lovely walled garden is a great place to relax and have a BBQ. Sue the owner was extremely helpful and friendly and when we arrived we were greeted with a very tasty homemade cake! Although the property is in the centre of Haltwhistle is is on a very quite side street yet conveniently close to all the ammenities that Haltwhistle offers. The local area is fantastic for walking without the need to get in the car. The local leisure centre is also recommended and offers a great outdoor heated swimming pool and tennis court. Highly recommended.
- Andy, July 2021 -
Clare “Loved this cottage, great location in the centre of Haltwhistle but still quiet, comfortable and well equipped, lovely little courtyard to sit and eat in with a bbq, with lovely garden outlook (though no access to garden so just for the view).”
Sue the host was great and did everything and more to make sure we had a lovely holiday. Highly recommended.
- Clare, July 2021 -

The location of the cottage is central and handy for all that you need (supermarkets, pharmacy, pubs, takeaway s etc). Walks are nearby too or clearly signposted if you fancy doing Hadrian’s Wall (car is advised for the Wall). The cottage was clean and spacious and equipped with what we needed. The owner was really helpful and contactable if needed. Would definitely stay here again and recommend it

- Geraldine, September 2020 -

Among concerns about the Covid 19 Pandemic, we felt really confident about our stay at Crescent Cottage The owners were welcoming without being fussy. The cottage is situated in a quiet location but well placed (within walking distance) for shops and eateries. We would visit again.
- Mary, September 2020 -
Callum “This is a very well equipped and spacious cottage that had everything we needed.”
It’s conveniently located near the centre of Haltwhistle but still away from the noise. Very good for walking and near some stunning scenery at Hadrian’s Wall, Allen’s Banks and a bit further away at Kielder Forest. Also handy for a trip by train to Newcastle or Carlisle.
- Callum, September 2019 -
Stella “The cottage is very well equiped and comfortable with lots of books and local information.”
The hosts are very helpful and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble, all the other reviews are correct! The cottage has a very central location in the town with shops, pubs etc only a few minutes walk away but the location is also very quiet. Haltwhistle is a great little town for exploring Hadrians Wall as it is in "5 star wall country" with lots of great walks nearby, the wall is only about two miles from the cottage.
- Stella, September 2019 -

Ruth “The cottage was most comfortable, the weather was chilly but the heating & hot water worked very well, keeping us warm throughout our stay.”
The kitchen is well equipped & we ate in a fair amount of the time. There is a Sainsbury's very close by which was ideal. We also had 2 very good meals at the Centre of Britain hotel in the main Street. Haltwhistle is a perfect location for exploring the Roman forts & Hadrian's wall. Very scenic area for walking. It was also easy to visit Carlisle, Hexham & Corbridge by bus & Newcastle by train from the local station within walking distance of the cottage. Many thanks to Sue & Nick for a most pleasant stay - making us most welcome with fresh flowers & cake upon arrival. We certainly would recommend Crescent cottage.
- Ruth, May 2019 -

It is warm and cosy and we looked forward to returning there at the end of each day. The location is very convenient: an easy walk to Haltwhistle Burn and the Wall and also just a couple of minutes from shops and pubs. The owners, Sue and Nick, are charming and welcoming. They couldn't have been more helpful and were a joy to meet. The surrounding countryside is stunning and the history, of course, fascinating. We chose this cottage because of the glowing reviews. Now it's our turn to add yet another one to the list!

Nick and Sue, the owners, who live next door, were very kind and friendly (fresh flowers and delicious coffee cake to welcome us!) and helpful giving us a lift from and to the station (which is in fact not at all far away, but after the two-day journey by train and ship from Germany, we were very grateful)! Highly recommendable cottage in a great locaton: everything you need just around the corner and excellent for walking and hiking, too: beautiful walks at lovely South Tyne Valley and Haltwhistle Burn Gorge. We did have a wonderful time at Crescent Cottage! Thank you so much, Sue and Nick! Danke schön!

The furnishings are very good and decor is tasteful, and it is a surprisingly peaceful location, as well as close to the town centre and many lovely walks. We had a very good holiday there.
- Juliet, April 2018 -
Philip “Great location and the cottage was fantastic.”
The upside down living really worked well. Great to have a garage to put bikes and bike rack when not in use. The local shops where only 1 minute walk, but with a 3 minute walk you are in the countryside and walking by a river. Owner was very helpfull with local info. Haltwhistle is great central location for Kielder, the moors, or the east or west coast.
- Philip, March 2018 -
Timothy “The cottage itself was charming on first view and very comfortable, clean and welcoming.”
Our hosts, Sue and Nick were very welcoming, friendly and charming with lots of knowledge about the surrounding area. The cottage contained more than expected, with games, movies and books for those quiet moments and lots of information on local attractions which proved to be very useful. Upon arrival a welcome cake was waiting with tea and coffee materials to hand to ease our way into the stay. There is so much to see and do in the area coving historic monuments, walking, cycling, swimming and night out to name but a few. Haltwhistle is just about centre to most locations in the North and a short drive can take you from Newcastle to Carlisle, Cumbria to Scotland a great touring starting point. I would heartily recommend this charming cottage to anyone wanting to visit the North and will look forward to returning in the future
- Timothy, September 2017 -
Christina “A very comfortable cottage!”
A living room upstairs, kitchen and bathroom reached through the living room. A sturdy handrail in the stairs. A very good place for exploring Hadrian´s wall as most places are at a maximum of 30 minutes drive away. We also got as far as to Wall´s End in the east and to Maryport in the West in an hour. The cottage lies close to shops in Haltwhistle. Many thanks for the welcome and advice we got from Sue!
- Christina, April 2017 -
Rebecca “Such a lovely cottage in Haltwhistle and much more spacious than expected.”

The spacious sitting room was very comfortable, as were the beds. The kitchen was provided with all the equipment that could possibly be required and contained very elegant crockery and glassware. The warm welcome from the hosts was much appreciated and this attitude was reflected by the local townspeople in all the shops, pubs and restaurants. A highly recommended holiday venue.

The cottage was so comfortable and had everything we needed. It was so close to all the areas we wanted to see and walk. We booked it so our Dutch /Norwegian visitors could walk Hadrians wall and all the dsabled cottages had been booked already. The stairs were difficult for my husband and I but we managed and are so glad we did. We've had such a lovely experience and Sue and Nick were so friendly and helpful. The cottage was outstanding with such a beautiful garden.
