“Property comfortable and met our needs.”

Washing machine was a great addition and shower pressure was great. The only suggestion we would make would be to update the TV system so that BBC could be viewed, or put it clearly on the listing so people can make their own arrangements. Thanks for letting us stay in your property.

“We have just returned from our stay in Hunter Cottage and whilst we largely enjoyed our stay there are a couple of things I need to comment on.”

Firstly the TV and the lack of BBCs channels and ITV4. This impacted on our watching any Wimbledon and the Tour de France (at a time to suit us). I can't believe that the cottage has such an old tv. Watching TV is something most people would like to do after a busy day! Secondly there is a leak in the shower room which I think they know about as there is a container of water behind the pedestal. I tried to remove it to empty it but couldn't. The puddle on the floor does drain eventually but it's not good for the floor as a dark mark is already on the wall. Lastly I must comment on the access which is tricky even from the road to the lane and feel this must be shown on the description. I know it would put some people off but it really is a very tricky access in two places and needs great care getting in and out Having said all this we did enjoy our week and will continue to use your cottages in the future. since your stay we have tried & experimented with the tv & it seems to be fine if we follow the intructions, the 'leak' has now been sorted, the access is usually explained upon key requests, when driving through the gatesway if you'd like to keep the car on the drive there are two wheel chocks to help the older cars, there is a turning circle futher along the lane , which i use or you can keep turning left to come out onto the original road to the village centre .... bests viv xx Property Owner

“I enjoyed staying @ Hunter Cottage, well located, convenient shopping, food takeouts or pub (don't think this is a city centre with a vast choice however), comfortable and fully equipped.”

Parking was good (previous review said it was a problem for a large car but I had no difficulty albeit my car is quite large bigger than an estate) you just need to either reverse in or out and drive down the lane to turn around. Very pleased that the landlord didn't have many rules, obviously wants you to enjoy and relax. Best recommendation is I would stay here again for a relaxing time while walking the Wall.

Parking at the back is tight if you have a big car but there is good parking just a little further down the lane. I would recommend this cottage for a stay and will use it again.

“This property should not be let in this condition,it felt grotty, unclean and very neglected.”

It really spoilt our much longed for holiday. We came with fairly low expectations as wasn’t too expensive, but this was way below the worst we imagined. It was cold, damp and musty when we arrived. We found a man’s underwear left in a drawer, old food in the cupboard, bin was mouldy, the bedroom carpet didn’t appear hoovered, the tumble dryer filter was blocked and water needed emptying - no battery in remote, ancient baking trays, cracks in walls not filled, dirt in the ancient washing machine, cooker old and needs replacing. The front door is an indicator of how neglected this is. Yet a few immediate and inexpensive tweaks would make this immediately better: 1) a blind, ideally vertical, in the front window is a necessity being right on the road…we blocked it half up with some cushions for some privacy. 2) a large rug on the tiled floors to make it more cosy, we resorted to using our picnic rug 3) proper fitting curtains all the same length - what an utter mess the sitting room looks because the badly hanging cheap cream curtains are different sizes and don’t go to the floor…a separate pole for door and window would look better…next door is an indicator of how much better it could look. 4) fill the cracks and repaint 5) replace oven trays and have matching wine glasses. Stage 2 would be more expensive and require new front door, new fitted kitchen units and appliances and new bathroom. Then either secondary glazing or better fitting window and door to obscure some of the traffic noise. Stage 1 is essential and better standard of cleaning and checking the property. Our holiday was spoilt by having to stay here, tho it did mean we spent a lot of time in the pub! Haltwhistle is a great location and there seem to plenty of other rentals, so I advise choosing somewhere else.

This cottage is thoroughly cleaned for each visit The curtains for the door are merely to keep privacy from the small door window & are most of the time tied back into their tie backs This cottage has never smelt of damp … The front door does require a makeover but we have never had an opportunity to do this, with visitors & decorator - as it will require 12 hours drying the gloss paint … this has now been arranged . The washing machine is an American top loader & incredibly useful & exactly the same as the one I have at home & actually NOT ancient ……… how it was dirty, I’ve no idea as we constantly use this & the dryer between changeovers if we’ve time … Apologies about the dryer I may have forgotten to empty after drying towels …. There is a rug, but having a large one means it’s not manageable to clean under but you can move the medium sized rug to whichever sofa you’d like it next to If we carried out all the changes you require then we’d have to charge quite a bit more & as you mentioned it is very cheap, not the Dorchester, but we never claim it is . It is a cheap & cheery holiday let, with a great shower & comfy beds - The holiday lets on either side are also ours - so not sure which you are referring to, but we do like to keep them different … perhaps you chose the wrong cottage Bests viv xx Property Owner

Lyn the Gardener/caretaker was lovely and on hand for local knowledge and anything you needed. Photos on listing do not reflect how the rooms look now and it should be made clear there is no WIFI. Cottage furnishings and decor could really benefit from a bit of updating and TLC.

“The claim for off road parking for two cars was optimistic.”

We found that parking just one [modest] car was quite a challenge & so left the car on the road for most of the time. You need to warn your customers to carefully assess the parking before taking their car onto the site. Otherwise a great stay.

The cottage is very spacious but found to need a good clean found rubbish under the chest of drawers in small bedroom dating to 2020 all the pots in the cooker were filthy had to wash before using dishwasher full of pans cobwebs in the bathroom the cleaner is not doing their job right then they ask you to leave the cottage as you find it i hooverd and swept also the mattress on the double divan is so bad all the springs are coming through it dosent cost the earth th replace It is such a shame about the faults in this cottage because it is in a lovely place

Many thanks for your feedback. The pots are never kept in the cooker/oven they are in the lower kitchen cupboard ..... not sure how this arose as we almost always put any used pans/trays etc into dishwasher as the norm. The owner has confirmed that her cleaner keeps in touch with all their guests, with much local knowledge. It is a shame that you did not contact her during your stay as she would have been more than happy to rectify any issues raised during your stay. Sadly at this time Lisa our lovely housekeeper's Dad died & yet she still attended the cottages..... I must not that having stayed there on several occasions spiders webs appear overnight! but thanks so so much for your feedback xxx Property Owner

There was even a burnside walk from the property. A pleasant stroll to shops, pubs etc. There was everything we needed in the cottage and plenty of hot water for showers. Very good value

“The seating/ dining area was far from comfortable and the TV was too high to watch without getting a stiff neck!”

!!. There were loads of old scatter cushions on the sofas which I doubt had been recently washed. There was some cookware in a cupboard which should be thrown away, and the oven needs a good clean. Parking was a challenge, even with our relatively small car. The cottage is some 3ft away from the road, which is one of the main roads into the town. Traffic noise in the sitting/ diner was awful. We left after 2 nights.

The road was always visible on the photo images, the tv is in a great place for viewing & ensures the neck muscles are in better shape, there are no scatter cushions they are all the large comfy cushions. I can park either the van/car or very large pick-up on the driveway, there is room for 2 x vehicles, & although you may have to be facing the wrong way on reversing out there is a turning circle 100 yards along the lane as well as a route out along the lane. Really unsure of the old cookware & oven is usually the first port of call, as well as the fridge to be dismantled & dishwashered ... xx Property Owner

“On arrival it was soon evident that the accommodation had not had a proper clean.”

We were in a situation of meeting up with family (who we had not seen for months) for the week otherwise we would have left on the second day. So we cleaned as we went:- drawers, crockery, bathroom plug and overflow full of gunge, thick dust from various areas, trays, dining table, chairs, Oven was dreadful, couldn't use. There were numerous cushions and after finding dried food smeared on one, we didn't look at the rest but piled them all in a corner. The crunch came when my hand accidently slipped down the side of the sofa and discovered a large amount of hair and debris that must have been there for a long time.WE DID NOT PULL ANYTHING OUT IN THE COTTAGE OR INVESTIGATE FOR FEAR OF WHAT WE MIGHT FIND. Other items in the property required a thorough clean but we simply avoided them. The next visitors would not have many of the problems we had as we had done so much cleaning. Very disappointing stay especially as it had been booked for our 60th wedding anniversary.

this, Hunter Cottage is always the last to be cleaned on a friday, as we use it as a base, it does have an industrial standard washing machine which we use for quick turnarounds & then we clean as we leave - our MO is to check the crockery & cutlery as soon as we enteer & then run all through the dishwasher - especially if some people have been washing by hand or not used the sidhwasher correctly, -hands up we may have missed a mug/cup/plate or knife, but this would be highly unusual. If we have had pets in then we are always extra vigilent. If this pile of hair had been stuck down the sofa then i fear for our hoover as the cushions are mostly fixed. the comfy cushions are always checked - but hey - hands up we may have missed one, and for that we are truly sorry,but human. The tv instructions were a bit vague but we mastered it eventually. However these are only minor things which may be helpful. Everything else was fine

“Lovely area of England.”

Had difficulty finding cottage as directions stated bridge cottages, bridge street and bridge street is at the other end of town. Eventually walked into cottage and was immediately disapointed. Kitchen and bathroom were not very clean and I didnt expect to share my showers with creeping black mould.There were cobwebs and dust in all corners of bathroom.We did not bother with using white goods except for fridge the rest seemed somewhat antiquated.Half the lights in kitchen did not work . Upstairs was better, bed linen and towels clean. We were also not told that cottage was situated opposite a builders yard. Overall Hunter Cottage needs some TLC and a good clean.

HALTWHISTLE

Hexham 17 miles.

Known as the 'Centre of Britain', this small market town is a great place from which to explore both Northumberland and Cumbria. Haltwhistle boasts a good range of shops and pubs - one of which, The Black Bull, is a real ale pub serving good food! There is an excellent leisure centre with heated open air swimming pool and cycle hire in the town, with pony trekking nearby. One of the best preserved stretches of Hadrian's Wall is only a mile to the north with various museums, forts and milecastles to be seen. There is even an ongoing 'dig' at the nearby site of Vindolanda. This truly is magnificent walking, riding and cycling country, with the Pennine Way and various bridleways and cycle routes passing rivers, forests, castles and of course, Hadrian's Wall.
