“The Boat House is absolutely lovely.”

We have stayed in Alnmouth 10-11 times now and The Boat House is by far the best place we have stayed. However, on arrival, the property was freezing and very uninviting. We found the heating controls and turned heating on, but most of the radiators were turned off, so had to switch them on as well. We have stayed in Alnmouth 10-11 times now and The Boat House is by far the best place we have stayed. However, on arrival, the property was freezing and very uninviting. We found the heating controls and turned heating on, but most of the radiators were turned off, so had to switch them on as well. The thermostat valve on the en-suit radiator was broken off, so that never worked, we just kept the door shut. We couldn't get the kitchen radiator to work either, but once lounge was warm, that wasn't a problem. It took 24-36 hours to warm up and when we went to bed on the Saturday night, we were frozen and didn't get much sleep at all, as the bed was so cold and felt damp. The heating had not been on for some time, the door mat outside was covered in sand, so had to shake that so as not to trample sand all through the property and the kettle was half full of water, so not sure how long that had been left in for and there were a couple of cobwebs hanging from the lounge ceiling. We can only assume this property had been empty for a while. We reported all this on Monday 3rd February and were told by the lady in the office, she would let the owners know. We did not want anything from the office, however an apology would have been nice. Out of the blue, Monday afternoon, we received a phone call saying a plumber would be at the property in 15 mins, but we were nowhere near and asked if someone could call in Tuesday morning around 10am. We waited in until 10.30, but no one arrived and we heard nothing after that. Sorry to be so negative, but we were so very disappointed when we arrived at the Boat House, but this could all have been avoided if someone had popped in a couple of days before we arrived and switched the heating on. After saying all of the above, we loved the Boat House and would definitely recommend it and would love to return sometime.

So sorry to hear this. It was a mystery as we have had back to back bookings before you came and the cleaners were in on the Saturday of your arrival. So not sure why all the heating was turned off. I will speak to the cleaning team to see what happened - apologies again Property Owner

About the location

ALNMOUTH

Alnwick 4 miles.

Situated just 4 miles east of Alnwick, Alnmouth is a charming resort popular with golfers and those seeking a peaceful holiday. The village lies on a narrow spit of land between the River Aln and the North Sea and was originally the port for Alnwick. Nowadays the area has returned to its unspoilt origins and offers a good variety of shops, pubs and restaurants as well as an excellent “links” golf course and some great rivers for fishing, as well as boasting miles and miles of splendid beaches and sand dunes to explore which afford stunning views of the North Sea. A short drive will bring you to Alnwick with its famous historic castle, The Alnwick Garden housing the Poison Garden which runs guided tours through dangerous botanicals and a variety of pubs and restaurants. Alnmouth is well situated for exploring Northumberland.
