“It’s hard to describe this house!”

On paper it looks good but the reality is very different. The best and possibly only good thing is the location! It lacks care and definitely lacks crockery…not enough bowls for two people to have a two course meal without washing up between courses! We just about managed the bathroom where it’s almost impossible to move. Most windows done open so very hot unless you close the blinds then it’s like sitting in a box! Definitely not worth the astronomical money I paid!

The property

Windy Edge Cottage was newly built in 2017 and is a contemporary, two-bedroom property with direct views of Bamburgh Castle on the Northumberland Coast AONB, close to Seahouses.

Accommodating five guests, the cottage offers a stylish décor, a well-equipped kitchen/diner, and en-suite bedrooms, whilst set conveniently near a host of amenities and the shoreline; one well-behaved dog is also welcomed at a fee.

Arrive at the cottage and make use of the private driveway before entering the hallway which leads to the snug sitting room, providing the ideal place to rest after a day of exploration in front of the roaring woodburning stove and Smart TV.

With the aid of cutting-edge appliances, rustle up delicious meals, ready to enjoy in the kitchen/diner around the six-seater dining table, enjoying views of the castle and surrounding fields.

If you’d prefer an alfresco affair, head outdoors to take advantage of the barbecue on offer, before gathering around the outdoor area.

Return indoors for an indulgent bath or a refreshing shower, found within the en-suites, before resting your eyes in either of the chic bedrooms, including a king-size and a family room.

Wake up to views of the village before setting out on your own tour, taking in the castle up close, just a short walk away, strolling down Bamburgh Beach, or heading to the nearby lighthouse for the greatest views.

If you're travelling south, schedule a Golden Gate Farne Islands Boat Trip or, if you'd rather stay on land, explore Seahouses' busy harbour.

It is also possible to organise trips to Holy Island, where visitors will have the opportunity to explore the Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve on foot, find the ruins of Lindisfarne Castle, and see the impressive buildings of Lindisfarne Priory.

Visit the groomed botanical gardens and lovely Earl Grey tea shop at Howick Hall Gardens & Arboretum to cap off your holiday, or hike to Dunstanburgh Castle's secluded base, completing your break with a trek through Dunstanburgh Heughs.

Choose Windy Edge Cottage as the base for your upcoming getaway.

About the location

BAMBURGH

Seahouses 3.5 miles; Beadnell 5.1 miles; Alnwick 16.9 miles.

The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.
