Karen “We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Reiver’s Rest.”
The house was beautiful, comfortable and well appointed, with every small detail catered for. William made us feel very welcome. The setting was tranquil - and the open fire was lovely too. We couldn’t fault this property and would highly recommend it. A big thank you and shout out from us!

Rachel “We had a lovely stay, surroundings are gorgeous and the property was lovely homely and clean.”
Excellent supply of wood and property was lovely and warm. I think I would add some Milk as we arrived late after the storm so nothing open and no power in the surrounding villages so would have been nice to make a hot drink. Would recommend and would stay again so thank you.

Melanie “We loved our week at Reivers Rest.”
A lovely property in a very peaceful location. We were very grateful to the housekeeping team for putting up a Christmas Tree in the sitting room and for leaving us a couple of Christmas treats in the kitchen. My only criticism is that the kitchen and bathroom are now a little dated and could do with a bit of modernisation. One thing to add to the kitchen inventory is a measuring jug.

Alison “Had a fabulous week at Reiver's Rest, loved everything about it.”
It is a very comfortable cottage in beautiful surroundings. We wanted somewhere quiet with no fireworks, for my terrified dog, so it was perfect. Had beautiful walks on the estate, and also in Bellingham and around Keilder. Liked it so much, we have already booked for next year.
- Alison, November 2024 -
Suzanne “A lovely cottage, the bedrooms are beautifully presented, it’s spacious and well equipped.”
Kitchen has everything provided except a dishcloth, could have been an oversight. It is however cold, take plenty of warm clothing. There are a couple of throws provided in the sitting room. We were looking forward to lighting the log fire, but unfortunately there was so much smoke we couldn’t use it again.
- Suzanne, September 2024 -
Frances “Another lovely stay at this cottage.”
It is cosy and set in some lovely grounds, providing access to lots of walks, so the car stayed put for most of the week. The whole house is roomy and very comfortable. We were made to feel welcome and have no wish to stay anywhere else for the next trip to relax and unwind. Thank you to all involved.
- Frances, September 2024 -
Sarah “We had a wonderful time at the cottage.”
It couldn’t have been better. Would love to come back soon. We were concerned about the shower spraying water over the window and shutters, but apart from that, there was nothing to fault. Thank you for making it a perfect holiday.

Victoria “We had a wonderful week here.”
The cottage are grade 2 listed converted stables so don’t expect a square box with double glazing. Yes it was a tad cold till heating kicked in, yes there are bits that have seen better days but undertaking any work in a listed building is not a quick or simple job. So if you want all mod cons and square edges this may not be for you. If you love rustic charm, character and the most fabulous setting anywhere then don’t hesitate y to book. The owners and Susan the housekeeper were lovely and sorted a couple issues out for us with no fuss or quibble. The woodlands around are great and if you have dogs they will love it. There is also a little resident flock of Guinea Fowl which we have never come across before and they are such charming birds and very quirky. Bellingham is a great village with really really good food and the residents are genuinely nice and friendly. Nothing to not like. ❤️

Alison “Amazing place to stay ❤️”

Sue “Booked for a week, only stayed five nights.”
This property is not for the faint-hearted, it is an old converted coach house and is COLD. There is an open fire and enough logs provided for a couple of hours heat, after that you are expected to pay for any subsequent wood you use, even though there is a massive pile directly opposite the property. Listed as sleeps six, very cramped if six guests visit, the kitchen is small and the bathroom is tiny and dated. The stairs are precarious and not at all suitable for young children. On a positive note, lovely quiet surroundings and a very comfy bed.
- Sue, July 2023 -
Julia “A lovely tranquil setting and some thoughtful additions in the holiday cottage itself.”
- Julia, June 2023 -
Richard “Brilliant cottage.”
Great hosts. Good value.
- Richard, June 2023 -
Louise “We were blown away with the stunning location and grounds in which the property is set.”
The cottage was very comfortable, especially the beds! The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you could need. Loved the family history and history of the property that is in the welcome book.
- Louise, April 2023 -
Percy “Great cottage in wonderful location.”
We were family of 5 and it worked perfectly. The only downside was having one loo between the 5 of us but we would definitely stay again.
- Percy, April 2022 -
Jonathan “Very enjoyable stay, great location to explore the surrounding area!”
Cosy and comfortable cottage accommodation, well equipped for an enjoyable stay.
- Jonathan, March 2022 -
Sarah “We had a lovely stay and found the owners very accommodating, providing two cots for us rather than one.”
They had them ready for us in the cottage on arrival, along with a high chair and stair gate. Plenty of towels provided and felt like everything possible was catered for, we only need to bring ourselves and toothbrushes! Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we’re thrilled with the location (peacefully rural but close enough to Bellingham if we needed supplies). Hoping that we will visit again in the near future.
- Sarah, February 2022 -
Keith “We had a lovely stay.”
Beautiful surroundings as the trees turned gold in November. Wonderful woodland walks. Highly recommended, particularly if taking a dog. One note of caution, dogs are not allowed upstairs in the cottage.
- Keith, November 2021 -
Ayla “Lovely stay, the property provided everything we needed in a great location.”
Extremely comfy beds!
- Ayla, October 2021 -
Frances “Enjoyed the peace and quiet and opportunity to share quality time with my extended family after being apart for so long.”
The owners are exceptional and make you feel as if you are the only ones who holiday in their property. This was our 4th stay and hope to be back early next year.
- Frances, September 2021 -
Louise “Very comfy beds, lovely linen and good water pressure in shower!”
Great location for exploring Northumberland. Enjoyed fishing on the estate and using grounds for cricket!
- Louise, August 2021 -
Alan “Beautiful location, quiet cottage, but please note on a working estate, so workers do start early on weekdays.”
Having only one bathroom for 6 people meant it was a juggling act for toilet and showers, especially if you had been out all day walking or on the beach. The cooker was a bit slow, so preparing meals may take longer than expected, and the bbq needs to be replaced. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our time here, shame we didn’t get to meet the hosts due to change in practices for COVID. Would stay on the estate again, but maybe in a different cottage
- Alan, July 2021 -
Sally “Stunning cottage in stunning setting.”
Fabulous staff Who discreetly go about their business but are ever present for help. From flowers on arrival to fabulous walks on the estate this Cottage never fails to please.
- Sally, July 2021 -
Mike “Many thanks for a great holiday in lovely accommodation in the stunning setting of Hesleyside.”
- Mike, June 2021 -
Maria “This cottage is everything you could want.”
Spotlessly clean and every need met on arrival; and for your ongoing stay. Other personal touches, such as candles, wood for the fire and fresh flowers make you feel immediately cared for. The bed in the main bedroom is huge and extremely comfortable, with quality duvet, pillows and linen. This was reflected in the other bedrooms (although we didn't need to use the bed in the third bedroom)We visited with our children, 9 & 11 who absolutely loved this place. A good base for walks and visiting all Nothumberland has to offer. We stayed for one week and were very sad to leave. We have no hesitation in recommending this amazing cottage.
- Maria, October 2020 -
Philippa “The cottage was fantastic - lovely and clean and had everything that we could need.”
The beds were extremely comfortable. The lounge/dining space was great especially with the open fire. It is situated in a great quiet area with lots of walks close by especially around the grounds. It is perfect for viewing the dark skies as there is no light pollution around.
- Philippa, October 2020 -
Diane “Excellent loved it x”
- Diane, September 2020 -
Neil “Must fix wifi.”
Not working for bulk of 5 day stay. An issue because we had teenagers with + phones had no signal (normally good, but not at xmas) Staircase very steep - Not suited to over 80's. Overall house great + gardens + Bellingham Pet friendly, space for dog crate at bottom of stairs. Lounge with real fire a lovely place to be !!!
- Neil, December 2019 -
Cathy “We had a wonderful family weekend in this cottage.”
The beds are very comfortable with lovely linen. The kitchen is small, but has all you would need. The oven isn’t as fast as a modern oven, but cooked baked potatoes and casseroles well. The bathroom is small, but has a good shower. The cottage has a log fire which was lovely after a long walk, and we were lucky enough to have a clear sky and see the stars. We would hopefully return one day.
- Cathy, November 2019 -
Lorraine “The cooker needs replaced.”
It’s a gas cooker and the igniter doesn’t work so they have provided a gas lighter to use. This is fine for the rings but you have to get on your hands and knees to light the oven. Lighting the oven isn’t worth the effort as it fails to get hot enough to cook anything! We had small sausages in there for over an hour before we gave up and zapped them in the microwave!
- Lorraine, October 2019 -
Phil “Good quality accommodation set in beautiful & peaceful countryside.”
Stayed for a week - 5 adults and the dog - and thoroughly enjoyed it. Plenty to see in this outstanding part of the world. Great walks with or without the dog. Good local provisions and the people we met over the course of the week were engaging and friendly. Highly recommended.
- Phil, September 2019 -
Charlotte and James “Sykes cottages were great service.”
The cottage we felt to be overpriced for what it was. For a family of 5 with 3 teenage children the bathroom and toilet facilities were vastly inadequate. In the details it offers it as a cottage for 6! The bathroom is tiny, no separate toilet and the fixtures and fittings old and inadequate. Nowhere to hang towels or put toothbrushes. The towels were very small. The cooker is very small for cooking for 6 and very dated. Outside it would’ve been nice to have had cushions for the chairs as they were often wet or damp. A parasol on the outdoor table would’ve been nice too. On the plus side, we were very grateful to have had our shopping taken delivery of and unpacked. Bike storage was excellent. The house keeper was wonderful, very friendly. She kindly offered us a mid week clean and thankfully brought fluffy larger towels and bathrobes for us. This would’ve been nice from the outset, considering they were available. The beds were very comfortable and the bed linen luxurious. It was a great cottage for exploring the local area. The owners have given access to numerous walking trails which was very good. The children could safely explore on foot or bikes without having to negotiate busy roads. It felt very private and very beautiful surroundings.
- Charlotte and James, August 2019 -
F “A cosy, peaceful cottage in superb surroundings.”
A warm welcome surprise touch in the fresh flowers, milk and cake. This was our 3rd visit in 8/9 months and hope to be back in the Autumn. It is nice to know the cottage is warm, well equiped and offers a great time no matter what the weather- plenty of books, games puzzles etc as well as outdoor seating etc. A perfect private space to relax, and is ideal for dogs. No phone signal [ major plus point for us] but you can get incoming land line calls . Easy to contact the owners if there is a need to.
- F, February 2019 -
Valerie “Lovely cottage.”
Welcoming cake and milk. Owners around if needed but not intrusive if one wishes to be alone. Almost perfect.
- Valerie, January 2019 -
Caroline “Fantastic cottage in wonderful location!”
- Caroline, October 2018 -
F “2nd stay at this property this year due to its welcoming atmosphere, comfortable accomodation and complete privacy.”
A real chanch to relax and explore a completely new area of the country. A lovely touch is the milk/cake and fresh cake, much appreciated after a long journey.
- F, September 2018 -
Jean “It was most enjoyable.”
A comfortable house in a perfect location.
- Jean, June 2018 -
John “Set in a fantastic location for walking and biking, Rievers Rest was a well presented, well facilitated property that instantly made you feel at home.”
With 3 good sized, and comfy bedrooms, an amicable bathroom and quaint lounge / diner, this is a great place to stay with the family. You will be close to Bellingham for all your needs and also central to most attractions / places to visit, which makes for a great place to stay if you're looking to enjoy the history of Northumbria, not to mention that you will be set in a fabulous Dark Sky area, meaning you wont need much encouragement to venture out on the evening and look at the stars. I highly recommend this property and will no doubt visit again soon.
- John, March 2018 -
William “House tour is recommended.”
- William, November 2017 -

Elizabeth “The property was in a beautiful, remote location but near enough to a village to get supplies easily.”
The lounge/dining room was particularly charming, and our children loved the open fire (even in August!). The grounds are enormous and perfect for children to kick a ball, have a swing or go exploring. We really enjoyed our tour of the manor house which we had on our last day.
- Elizabeth, July 2015 -

The sitting room and bedrooms are very comfortable. It is beautifully furnished. The open fire is great and there are lots of games, puzzles etc. There is so much to do and see locally and the surroundings are peaceful and beautiful. Bellingham is a very friendly little town.

Marjorie “Reivers Rest was one of the most comfortable holiday homes we have stayed in.”
The overall effect was charming and all the furnishings were of a very high quality. The owners were close by if anything went wrong (which it didn't!) We were warm, there was loads of hot water, kitchen was large, huge sitting room with open fire was a delight, and the beds were heavenly. A true countryside experience with loads of wildlife to watch for. Lots of lovely walks to take with the pleasure of returning to this spacious and welcoming cottage.
- Marjorie, September 2014 -

Beds wonderful - so comfy. Clean and decor traditional. Great to have the stable next door to store bikes too. Really enjoyed the access to great walking and an open fire in the evening. The walks on the estate were lovely too. Location wonderful as you feel remote, very peaceful, but only a short trip to Bellingham.

Lowri “The cottage was set in the grounds of a beautiful Georgian manor house.”
It really felt like you were stepping back in time but with the luxury comforts of today. Our dogs felt like they had their own theme park with acres of estate that the owners family kindly let us use as our own. The location was perfect, the owners couldn't be nicer and the cottage was a real home from home.
- Lowri, January 2014 -
Jess “The cottage was beautiful.”
The owners were very friendly and helpful, and welcomed us to a warm cottage with an open fire. We visited many places around Kielder with the cottage being in such a perfect location, including the observatory. The sky was amazing. To think that you could see the Milky Way in England was more than spectacular, when you come from a city with few stars in the sky visible. Long mountain walks, villages and Kielder lake were all excellent sites to see and visit in the area. Wonderful for those who want to go on an adventure. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our short holiday, and would most definitely come back again!
- Jess, November 2013 -
