“Great stay in this well appointed flat.”

Comfy beds, great showers and although there were only three of us would comfortably have hosted a party of six. Parking space valuable as this is a busy little town. Everything you could want for a stay in this lovely little town. Great shops and restaurants.

“The biggest problem is the bus stop right outside as people at the bus stop make a lot of noise.”

Facilities are really good. It is in the town and has all amenities close by within walking distance. Owner is very friendly and knowledgable about the area. Apartment has everything you need to eat at home.

“A beautiful property, in the centre of this charming village.”

The Old Exchange is well equipped, very clean and extremely comfortable. Plenty of information on hand for amazing days out, scenic walks, or historic places to visit, so much to see and do, a week was just not long enough. The owner of the property was on hand for any issues (which are unlikely, we had none). I would highly recommend this property

“The location was perfect - so easy to get around town, and close to every shop and pub and bakery that you could want.”

The independent book shop is right across the street! The kids and I love Corbridge deeply, and this was a wonderful spot to stay in town. We used it as a base to hike Hadrian's Wall, and it was perfectly equipped for the task. (Scott and his team from Executive Taxis made the pick ups and drop offs possible.) Everything was as described and we could not have been happier. As a general whole, we have been extremely happy with every rental we have taken from Sykes. Highly recommend!

“A lovely characterful property, excellent proportions and fabulous location.”

Directions to the property and local information given proved very useful. The property is in need of a few tweaks to make it a perfect stay, some small repairs and redecorating worn areas are required. At other properties we have had fresh milk and sometimes bread or something to make a snack which is great after travelling for a while and often toiletries are provided such as shower gel/shampoo. I understand the owner was away and perhaps that is why these were omitted and as the local supermarket was within a few steps it was not a problem. Overall we had a lovely week and I would recommend this property to friends and family.

“Brilliant location, right in centre of Corbridge.”

All bedrooms are very comfortable with en-suite. Kitchen has all amenities you would need if eating in. We chose a different cafe each day for breakfast and all were great. Plenty choice for evening too! Lots of various shops including award winning bakery, local butchers and specialised retail shops to browse round. Train station to Carlisle or Newcastle walkable in around 20/30 mins. Good and regular bus service too. Lots of attractions and interesting places to visit. The owner John is very friendly, extremely knowledgeable about Corbridge and Northumbria and enthusiastic to share with you. He genuinely wants you to enjoy your stay whilst staying at The Old Exchange. Parking is off road at rear and welcomed. Would definitely recommend, a beautiful part of the UK with plenty to keep you busy!!

“Great accommodation.”

Three double bedrooms, two with en-suite shower rooms, one with very short corridor to bathroom. Plus a toilet/utility room. Spacious and comfortable living room. Perfect for a large family or 3 couples. Perfect location in the town of Corbridge. Everything is within walking distance - restaurants, tea rooms, bakery, shops, a deli next door, a small supermarket a few doors down, and The Pele bar about 100 metres away. Would recommend.

“This cottage is in a superb central village position above two shops, outside is a bus stop to Hexam or Newcastle.”

(No 10 ), the property is very well kept, clean , with three comfortable double rooms all en suite. You do have 2 or 3 flights of stairs to the main rooms and bedrooms. Someone said the church bells can be heard, hardly noticed them, they are not loud or intrusive. There is off street parking for 2 or 3 cars. The owner is very helpful for information and instructions with pictures on getting there, keys etc, and rang to see if everything was OK. It was. Th village of Corbridge and surrounding area has excellent walks, good access to Hadrians wall and the abbey at Hexam. We would highly recommend this as a base to explore.

“We loved staying at The Old Exchange.”

The owner was very helpful with information about where to eat and places to explore. The house was light and roomy as well as a bit unusual. Corbridge is very attractive, with many places of historical interest nearby. On our doorstep were lots of pubs, restaurants and cafes. There were many interesting shops and it has a train station which houses a famous Indian Restaurant. There is also a good bus service. I highly recommend both Corbridge and The Old Exchange.

“The Old Exchange is a lovely property right in the heart of Corbridge, itself a pretty town with all the amenities you could want with a super bakery, butcher, green grocer, deli and pubs all within 2 mins walk.”

Off street parking was super in a town that is otherwise challenging for parking (if a little tricky to get in and out of at times), and the property was very spacious and comfortable. It was very well equipped, especially in the kitchen and the bedrooms were great with views over the rooftops to the hills from the window seats. The owners were proactive and friendly and made themselves available for questions and queries.

“An excellent, well maintained, comfortable and well equipped property in an ideal central location with designated parking.”

There are plenty of amenities within walking distance. Anyone booking the property needs to be aware that they are staying in the middle of a large village so there will be noise from traffic and the church bells but it was of no consequence to us. Ideal property for those travelling around the locality needing a break from the car. Have given five stars for every category because where there was a very tiny issue the owner responded immediately. We also appreciated his knowledge about the area We needed to stay in Corbridge for a few days to attend a wedding so it was perfect accommodation and location for us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Old Exchange and will not hesitate to book the property again.

“‘The Old Exchange’ is very comfortable and perfectly positioned for exploring this particular area of Northumbria.”

The apartment is spacious and well kitted out. The kitchen had everything one would need apart from egg cups. We all slept well in the comfortable beds. The apartment is positioned in the heart of the village with independent shops, good pubs and beautiful countryside all within a few minutes walk. John, the owner, was very helpful re directions and recommendations. We had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend staying in the apartment.

“The main reason I have not scored this property higher is due to the noise from the chiming church clock (every 15 minutes) and the noise from the bus stop (first bus at 5.”

30am) directly outside the property. This meant that we didn’t sleep well, which is not ideal when on holiday. However, the property was spacious and generally well-equipped. The owner was extremely helpful and came round to lend us a desk fan to help with the heatwave, as the top floor bedrooms were very warm when we arrived. He also gave us lots of useful information about the local area, which was appreciated. He also came to clean the table and chairs in the garden so that we could sit outside. Some areas of the property could have done with a little more TLC eg there were cobwebs and spiders in the main bathroom, and lots of dust and fluff under the upstairs beds, and the window in the main bedroom would not stay open. Also for the price I would have expected a smart TV in the property. Corbridge is a lovely town and we enjoyed exploring the area.

“Corner bath hard to use, had to buy bath mat but was reimbursed by owner.”

Evidence of mould around bath.Windows had lots of cobwebs. Washer took some time to get to work despite looking at instruction book and needed cleaning before use from build up of fluff debris presumably from tumble drier. There was room for three cars but only just adequate.

Very tastefully furnished with comfortable beds. We found the oven very basic and we could have done with a bit more cutlery as there were only 4 teaspoons. These were only minor things and the owner was very helpful and easy to contact.

“You could not get more central.”

Top location and spacious, warm and comfortable accommodation. En-suite to all rooms. Parking fantastic we enjoyed a week and could have stayed longer. Great value. Only downside was the oven took ages to heat a pizza took 40 mins we could have missed something in the operation but marks not clear. You must get fish and chips at the Angel !!!! We will return. There are many restaurants, cafes and pubs all within walking distance and dry good transport links with a train station and local bus routes if you don’t want to use your car. “The information on key collection and local knowledge from the owner was fantastic, the owner made suggestions of places to visit, some of which we used all where as good, if not better, than our expectations!”

The facilities in the apartment enabled us to cook some evenings, plenty of crockery etc so only needed to put the dishwasher on once a day. The beds were comfortable, if a litte softer than some of the party are used to, however that is personal preference and no reflection on the comfort, plenty of pillows and towels. All in all a very comfortable place to stay and we would happily stay here again. Thank you for providing such great information!

The owner is super-attentive providing ideas of where to go/to eat etc. Lounge is very comfy and kitchen well equipped. Corbridge itself is a very good hub for a holiday from a viewpoint of the restaurants/pubs etc. The property is very close to both the local deli and the co-op supermarket - the combination of this and the local restaurants might lead you to putting on a few pounds in weight!

“Corbridge is a very good base for Northumberland, particularly if you want to spend a lot of time exploring Hadrian’s Wall and the forts and museums along it.”

It’s also a great place in its own right with an interesting history and a very good range of independent shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. There’s a handy Co-op store within a couple of minutes' walk, as well as a good butcher, bakery, delicatessen, etc. The Old Exchange was terrific – very comfortable and well-equipped, with easy parking and a very helpful owner who can advise on places to eat and visit locally.

“We loved Corbridge but above all, we thought the Old Exchange was by far the best self catering accommodation we had stayed in (and we've stayed in a few over the years!”

). It was like a home from home: spotlessly clean, comfortable, warm. Even the kitchen equipment was of good quality (and a Miele washing machine!) The host, John, was most welcoming, considering we had not contacted him prior to arrival. The next time we go away, we will look at other properties owned/managed by Sykes cottages. It made our holiday. Excellent!!

In the middle of historic Corbridge, the apartment is very close to all the facilities you will need for your stay including shops, cafes and restaurants. A wider range of supermarkets and shops can be found in nearby Hexham. Having off-street parking is a real bonus as Corbridge can get very busy. The apartment is spacious with comfortable beds and three en-suite rooms, a well equipped kitchen and comfortable lounge. Great place to stay and would certainly consider staying there again.

Also starting to need some minor touch up to decor etc. The garden is an absolute sun trap and so quiet - but in desperate need of a tidy up - we did a bit ourselves so we could use it. The furniture in there was filthy and we scrubbed it down so we could enjoy sitting out there - such a shame as this could be a real selling point - its the perfect place to relax in.

Some of our party, with the help of their bus passes really appreciated being this close to public transport. The cottage was much bigger than expected and with every bedroom having its own bathroom, plus an extra toilet on the main living floor very well provided. We will look to go back there in the future since it delivered everything that we wanted.

A half-hourly bus service which goes to Newcastle in one direction and the local town of Hexham in the other is just a step away from the front door of the property. We did feel that a little 'husbandry' in areas of the flat facilites would be worthwhile but will not put us off booking again!!!

The accommodation is beautifully furnished and very well equipped. The owner is friendly, helpful and responsive. Overall this accommodation is really excellent and we would certainly book it again if we needed to stay in the area.

CORBRIDGE

Hexham 3 miles; Newcastle 16 miles.

A delightful historic village surrounded by beautiful unspoilt Northumbrian countryside, Corbridge offers much of interest, including specialist shops, old inns and a 12th century bridge spanning the river. Hadrian’s Wall and Housesteads Fort are nearby, whilst the market town of Hexham is a few miles away and is well worth a visit, with its narrow bustling streets, good selection of shops and a fascinating abbey boasting 15th century paintings and a fine Saxon crypt. The Border Country, Northumbrian coast, Kielder Forest with cycling and watersports, Beamish Open Air Museum and Durham Cathedral are all within easy motoring distance, while the Gateshead Metro Centre (one of the largest shopping centres in Europe) can be found 20 miles to the east. Excellent golf and fly and coarse fishing are also available locally.
