Shirley “Loved this property.”
It was spacious, extremely well ‘kitted out and clean. The log fire gave a welcome cosy feel in the evenings and the outside patio and bbq, finished the day’s activities off in a fine fashion. The grassy space below being a great way for 2 young boys to practice their footy skills, and the local wildlife provided a lovely wake up call most mornings. Ideally situated for the A1, Belford shops and being separated from the busier parts of Northumberland, it is yet ideal for both the coastal beaches and thoroughly enjoyable local circular walks centred around the cottage. All being well, we hope to return next year.

Isobel “We had a great week & were so lucky to get sunshine all week too.”
The cottage was excellent, comfy beds, good showers, well-stocked kitchen. Ideal spot also for walking our dog. We would definitely return if in this area in the future.

Janet “This place is an absolute gem - up a quiet (if slightly bumpy) track; very well maintained; lovely paved area for sitting out and watching the stars/wildlife and for our dog to potter around safely; really clean; well-equipped and very comfortable beds.”
The whirlpool bath is also brilliant after a full day touring the area. We will definitely be back! Can recommend "The Middle Inn" in Bamborough (about a 15 minute drive, but well worth it) as well - lovely food and very dog friendly/welcoming.
- Janet, February 2025 -
Judith “Lovely property - brilliant position especially for walking and visiting local area including Bamburgh and Lindisfarne.”
Well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Really enjoyed our holiday and will definitely be back next year.
- Judith, February 2025 -
Eileen “Well equipped and very comfortable cottage Owner responded quickly to phone calls for assistance- first when we got lost finding the cottage due to local road closures and later in the week when our heating had problems.”
We also found this cottage ideal and well situated for exploring Northumberland

Deborah “Great cottage.”
Quick response from host. Peaceful and relaxing location, great base for walking and touring Northumberland. Arrived to a warm cottage with a lovely welcome package. The cottage is comfortable and clean and has everything that you need. A wonderful stay, would recommend.

Scott “Nice and cosy cottage.”
Enclosed garden ideal for dog owners. Quite remote as described and perfect for walkers, in better weather. Village of Belford a few miles away and close the Northumbrian coast.
- Scott, December 2024 -
Peter “This was the third time we have used the cottage in December.”
The stay was as good as the previous. The road leading up to the cottage has had some attention since last year (apparently it is a local authority maintained road) and there were fewer pot holes, non of which were a problem. The heating continues to be a head scratcher. Some of the radiators could do with bleeding and the thermostatic settings were a bit variable. Some radiators were too hot others not hot enough, but this was a minor problem as we controlled everything largely through the system thermostat which was in the hall. Overall a great cottage in a convenient location.

Mary “The cottage was perfect- so much we have booked next year.”
The furniture and furnishings are fabulous. It has everything you can possibly need for a holiday stay. Highly recommended

Jemma “Wonderful stay.”
House was fantastic, so well equipped. Perfect for our multi-generational holiday. Excellent location, easy to access lots of nearby attractions. Would absolutely recommend. Thank you!

Graca “A comfortable cottage with ample space and a lovely wood burning stove with wood provided.”
The beds were very comfortable and we appreciated the ensuite for our older family relative. For those who love a remote location it was very quiet and peaceful with plenty of places to walk in beautiful scenery. Belford was very near and with easy access to local shops and to explore the beauties of Northumberland. Thank you.

Peter “Lovely cottage in a peaceful location in the heart of beautiful Northumberland”

Matthew “Lovely property in a rural quiet location.”
We found a few issues, mainly the smell of dog in 2 of the 3 bedrooms. We ended up moving the rugs out of those rooms into the utility, and that improved things, but the wardrobe (and our clothes) slightly smelt of dog all week. (We are not dog owners, so can probably smell it easier). The property was generally very clean when we arrived, but the wooden floors were quite dirty, we spilt some tap water in the kitchen on the first day and when we cleaned it up with kitchen roll, the kitchen roll was brown! Small issue with the oven, it might be that one of the heating elements has failed, as after 30 minutes it still wasn’t up to temperature properly (180-200). It did cook, it just took ages, probably only getting to about 150-160. A water filter jug was provided, with a sign that said ‘please use filter jug for all drinking water’. The reason for this was not clear, and turned into a bit of a faff all week waiting for enough filtered water to boil a kettle, fill multiple water bottles for a day out, make kids drinks etc. The Double bed in the 2nd bedroom was also quite uncomfortable, but I appreciate this may be personal preference! A sign in the property about the hot water would also be useful, it takes several minutes to get hot, and on the day we arrived we gave up trying to use the showers late evening before bed as we hadn’t fathomed out yet that you needed to let the hot water run for a good few minutes before trying to use it.

Stuart “The only thing we found was several deep potholes in the lane up to the cottage which were difficult to negoiate after rain.”
Apart from a power cut, beyond the owners control, we had a great time.
- Stuart, July 2024 -
Sharon “Very nice, well equipped cottage in a lovely area.”

Ann “Had a wonderful stay.”
Cottage had everything we needed. Excellent location, just a short drive to nearest beach. Very clean and comfortable and good to have enclosed patio area for young children and a dog. Would thoroughly recommend.
- Ann, May 2024 -
Allan “Cottage was immaculate and had everything we needed.”
It was a great place to stay with visitor attractions close by. Sykes should check directions as cottage is on left of farm track not right as stated. I would highly recommend this cottage, could not fault it.
- Allan, April 2024 -
David “We had an amazing stay at Gardener’s Cottage.”
Great location and the cottage had everything we needed. Thank you for the welcome basket.
- David, March 2024 -
Bryan “Absolutely superb cottage.”
Comfortable and well equipped. Loved the Whirlpool Bath! Lovely quiet location and handy for many local attractions. Less than an hour to Scotland! Very reasonable cost for such a lovely cottage that sleeps six with three great bedrooms. Would love to come again!
- Bryan, March 2024 -
Stewart “Nice, well equipped cottage”
- Stewart, February 2024 -
Fraser “Beautiful cottage, great location.”
As previous reviews stated kitchen is very well equipped and all plates and glasses etc were clean. Beds were very comfortable. The place was very clean. We were only here three nights over New Year so didn’t use garden etc but all looked great and will definitely look to return in the future. There were 4 adults and 2 children in our party and the space was perfect for us. And the cottage was lovely and warm without really needing to use the fire. The only thing I would point out is there aren’t any particularly sharp kitchen knives which made cooking New Years dinner interesting. I am only saying this as if I was reading a review before I went somewhere I’d find this helpful as I would bring my own :) Thank you
- Fraser, December 2023 -
Peter “We arrived after a wet day and just before dark.”
We found the road up to the cottage on what seemed worse repair to last year, although last year the potholes may have been masked by ice. The owner did not give us any warning. Some of the potholes were significant and a couple are marked with stocks on the verge. After a few trips we got to know how to drive the road to avoid the worst holes but it would have been good to have had some pre-warning. Apart from that the stay was great and as good as our few days last December.
- Peter, December 2023 -
Jessica “Great cottage that is a lot larger than the images.”
It was clean and toasty warm for us arriving on a snowy day. I was worried about having a dog but there was loads of space for her to run around outside
- Jessica, November 2023 -
David “Lovely cottage in a great location with great walks and lots to see, it was warm with a ample supply of firewood for the log burner.”
Our Golden Retriever loved the place with lots of dog friendly places around, would be more than happy to return.
- David, November 2023 -
Carol “Beautiful property in a gorgeous location, very comfortable will definitely recommend to family and friends.”
- Carol, November 2023 -
Tracey “Gardeners cottage was very nice set in a wonderful quiet setting.”
Local attractions were virtually on the door step. The accommodation provided everything that you could possibly need for a weeks holiday. The beds were a bit hard, but each to their own, they done the job. As we had a dog, we did close the gate to ensure that he did not go through it, as vehicles go past regularly. But others did come through the gate and leave it open all the time, something to be aware of if you have a dog or young children. The only other problem was there were a lot of fly’s getting in the cottage. Even in October. There was a fly zapper which was very welcome but, perhaps a fly screen would be beneficial? Over all a lovely cottage and a great holiday.
- Tracey, October 2023 -
Helen “Gardeners Cottage is absolutely fantastic!”
A beautiful stone bungalow surrounded by nature. Peaceful and tranquil. With all the facilities, equipment and comfort of a very upmarket home. Check out the whirlpool bath! There was nothing to find fault with. We had a very relaxing time there. I would highly recommend Gardeners Cottage for a stay of any length. Thank you Mrs. Nixon. You have an awesome property!
- Helen, September 2023 -
Athene “We were very impressed by the standard of equipment, the comfortable furnishings, and the setting of the Gardeners Cottage.”
It provided us with a very good base from which we were able to explore the beautiful Northumberland coast, and also a foray deep into the Cheviot Hills. We also enjoyed the walk from the property to Cuddy's Cave and back across beautiful farmland footpaths on a beautiful sunny day. The very generous "Welcome Pack" provided on our arrival was much appreciated too! Many thanks to Sykes Cottages and the owners of the property, John and Athene Stent
- Athene, September 2023 -
Elizabeth “The cottage was perfect for us, 5 adults + 1 dog.”
The kitchen was the best equipped kitchen we have had in a holiday home. A slight problem re: hot water was sorted out straight away by Valerie and we had no other issues. The secure outside area was great for the dog to wander in & out. We would recommend the cottage to friends and family without hesitation. p.s. the instructions for the bedroom alarm clock radio would be helpful.
- Elizabeth, August 2023 -
Pauline “We had a very pleasant stay - the cottage was well equipped and it clean and tidy when we arrived.”
It was great to have the barbeque which we used once abd we had some pleasant evening walks in the attractive setting of the woods. I think it would have been interesting to know a little about the farm- was it arable or livestock or both. On the whole we enjoyed our stay - thank you.
- Pauline, August 2023 -
Joanne “Stunning Cottage in a superb location.”
We loved every minute.
- Joanne, July 2023 -
Reg “A lovely property very well furnished.”
it had a small area that we could leave our dog outside knowing he was unable to get out. Owner left us a welcome pack that was much appreciated. Only draw back we both felt was lack of small tables to put hot and cold drinks on. We would go back again without hesitation
- Reg, June 2023 -
Dorothea “Lovely cottage.”
Ideal position for touring the area.Quiet and peaceful. Shame all this was marred by the dreadful smell in the ensuite.
- Dorothea, May 2023I am so sorry that you had a smell in the ensuite, its a shame you hadn't told me there was a problem as I could have moved you into my other property which happened to be empty that week. We have found there was a small crack in the sealant around the shower tray, which was allowing water to seep down under the shower tray this water was causing the problem, which has now been fixed. Sorry again but hope you still enjoyed your holiday. Property Owner

Sandra “Very comfortable cottage with everything we needed for a relaxing stay.”
Only slight improvement might be to update some of the guides and literature in the cottage. Lovely quiet location, with nice walks for the dog. Very convenient for the beach, Bamburgh and many other places to visit in the area.
- Sandra, May 2023 -
Terry “I would recommend this cottage to anyone, 1st class , short drive to Bamburgh and Lindisfarne.”
It was in a great location too, very comfortable stay.

We had a wonderful 4 night stay and the cottage was well equipped but maybe a nest of tables would help for drinks nearer to settee’s

Paul “Very nice holiday, small problem with the heating but the owner sorted it straight away.”
This was the second stay here and would stay again.
- Paul, March 2023 -
Lisa “We had a splendid week in this cottage which was cosy, beautifully clean and well equipped.”
It also had a very secure patio so our dog could spend time playing out. A lovely quiet location yet not too far from amenities.
- Lisa, March 2023 -
Claire “What a lovely cottage to find.”
Great central base for exploring the North East. Cottage was very clean and comfortable, especially the beds. Lots of room Too. The kitchen was well equipped and we appreciated the welcome gifts etc. Thankyou. The garden was lovely although it as too cold to sit outside. The log burner kept us very cosy in the evening but there were no firefighters. No dishwasher tablets either. There was also a very strong odour on entry, and in all rooms. I’ve no idea what the Aroma could be but wasn’t overly pleasant. We got use to it but always smelled it when entering the cottage or any of the rooms. As we left after our 3 day stay there was another foul smell outside very much like a drain. Apart from this it was great. Lots of storage too for longer stays. Beautiful setting and safe patio area. Thankyou
- Claire, February 2023 -
Peter “We had a great 5 night stay in wintery weather so keeping warm and having ample supplies of hot water were important.”
Operating the hotwater/central heating was a bit of an issue and somewhat confusing, partly because the instructions weren't as clear and as detailed as they could have been, but we got round the issue and we were ok. Our only other comment was that the lounge are would benefit from better and softer lighting such as standard lamp or table lights near the seating area. But all in all a great cottage in a quiet location, well equipped and well furnished.
- Peter, December 2022 -
Alyson “When we arrived we were greeted by a very strong smell in the kitchen.”
I phoned the owner who said it was probably the cleaning agents used. This settled but never completely went away. More of a concern is the twin bedroom which had a very strong smell, not unlike the smell of gas. By the end of our week, it was even stronger. I hope the next guests were able to get things sorted. The bedding was not as advertised in your photos and just had what I would say were cheap duvet covers and very cheap flimsy pillows. The shower and shampoo gel was a cheap Wilko shower and soap dispenser. The en-suite bathroom smelt mouldy so much so that my husband’s asthma was started off when he used the loo on the first night and had to use the other loo down the corridor the rest of the week due to this fact. The BBQ was rusty. The batteries in the tv remote were dead and no spares around. The DVD didn’t work either. Also, there were no personal touches, and I know we are post Covid etc but a few luxury touches would have been nice. We have booked with Sykes on a few occasions and always felt the standard to be high but this property let the side down I’m afraid. I would be very unhappy if I booked a week in August 23 and paid £1969.00!! I feel that the owner Mrs Nixon should take a look herself at the property and not just leaving it to the cleaner to sort. The barn was in a lovely quiet spot at the edge of a forest so we enjoyed a peaceful week. Alyson Halliday

Susan “What fabulous accommodation.”
Well placed, quiet location but within easy travelling distance of loads of visitor attractions/places of interest. House itself was very well appointed with everything you need. We were a party of 6 and there was lots of room for everyone.
- Susan, October 2022 -
Hilary “Lovely holiday cottage, very well equipped, warm, and lovely comfy beds.”
Central to exploring the surrounding beautiful countryside. Would highly recommend.
- Hilary, September 2022 -
Audrey “Gardener’s Cottage is a lovely Cottage set in quiet surroundings in a beautiful part of the country.”
We enjoyed our holiday, it was very restful and peaceful. This is our second stay here. There are plenty of places to go and visit - we especially like Bamburgh. The owners were very pleasant and helpful. The only down side were the bothersome flies and the beds were not particularly comfortable. Otherwise we were very happy.
- Audrey, September 2022 -
John “On the whole a lovely place to stay.”
shame about the flies and the smell from the drains but these did not spoil our stay.
- John, August 2022 -
Kay “A lovely, private, peaceful, spacious cottage well furnished and everything we needed for a very relaxing week.”
The enclosed patio area is great as we could let our dog wander in & out without escaping after the pheasants! There is a large grassed area, also great for dogs or children. Belford is close by with Coop & Sunnyhills Farm shop etc. This was our second visit & we enjoyed it even more.
- Kay, August 2022 -
Angela “Great property, well equipped, in a peaceful location.”
My only gripe is the mattresses wear hard but I guess that is so they last longer...no big deal. Also we were told we couldn't walk past the other cottage as this was not a foot path to the woods...having a dog that needs a walk every morning and reading that there were wooded walks from the cottage I thought this was great and would be OK as there are no signs saying no access. But other than that we loved our stay.
- Angela, July 2022 -
Michael “This cottage exceeded expectations It isieallly placed for beach walks exploring etc Very pleased.”
My only problem was finding it as there appears to be another of same name post code ne70 7 jd which is where we went. Excellent by
- Michael, July 2022 -
Nigel “Lovely location.”
Shame the grassed area isn't fenced off, so dogs can have a run. Bed mattresses need changing. Heating is a complete mystery. Radiators come on, when heating is supposed to be off. Well equipped cottage. Has everything you need.
- Nigel, July 2022 -
Louise “Lovely setting and cottage hosts were very accommodating would definitely stay again.”
- Louise, June 2022 -
Timothy Paul “Good holiday property .”
One minor problem was TV reception which we never did manage to sort out . We did not contact owner as we watched a few programmes on laptop via internet and were quite busy so no time for long term problem solving .
- Timothy Paul, June 2022 -
Steve “Gardeners Cottage is wonderful.”
The kitchen is fully equipped (although the knives could do with sharpening :-)), there’s also a barbecue outside. The living area is spacious and comfortable with a very effective log burner for chilly evenings (although the heating is very good). The bedrooms are a good size and the beds are comfortable, there’s plenty of room for 6 adults here. The location was perfect for us, it’s a very pleasant 30 - 40 minute walk to the village pubs, or a 5 minute drive, and Belford is very nice with a convenient Coop supermarket. The chip shop looked good but we didn’t try it as we had a reservation at the Potted Lobster in Bamburgh (highly recommended but book several weeks, if not months ahead!). In addition to Bamburgh lots of other attractions are within 20-30 minutes drive of the cottage - E.g., Alnwick or Alnmouth to the south and Holy Island to the north. Best of all is the pure peace and tranquillity. Just sitting on the terrace all you can hear is bird song. There’s no traffic as the road only leads to the farm. We also saw hares along the lane in the evening.
- Steve, May 2022 -
Angela “Absolutely lovely cottage to which has everything that you need for your stay.”
Tucked away for privacy but an ideal location for touring around. I would highly recommend anyone to stay here. We will certainly be back
- Angela, May 2022 -
Simon “Lovely cottage, peaceful location but close enough to the coast.”
Very much recommended
- Simon, May 2022 -
Janet “Lovely cottage with great fixtures and fittings.”
The owner responded in minutes to fix things after I contacted her to say that the boiler had stopped working.
- Janet, April 2022 -
Lesley “Great cottage we could not find fault with anything in this cottage - very clean and cozy.”
The welcome basket was a lovely touch. A very dog friendly place with a safe enclosed court yard even a dog crate in the utility room. Worth noting that its farm land so not suitable if you like walking your dog off lead but plenty of beautiful beach space for your fur babies to have a stretch on - We are definitely going back.
- Lesley, March 2022 -
Jayne “I was delighted with the cottage, it was lovely, we found everything there we needed.”
The welcome pack cakes were a treat that we thoroughly enjoyed in front of the log fire with a glass of wine. The only thing I wanted to know and didn’t find out was if there were any take away hot food available locally and if so did they deliver.
- Jayne, November 2021 -
Julie “Beautiful well appointed cottage and an idyllic location.”
We will hopefully come back to stay again!
- Julie, November 2021 -
Sarah “Really comfortable property.”
Ideally located. Had a fab week. Tiny, tiny gripe which might not bother others - no roasting trays!
- Sarah, October 2021 -
Jill “Everything was catered for, lots of information in the cottage about places to ...”
Everything was catered for, lots of information in the cottage about places to visit and all the instructions on everything in the cottage you need to use, fab place
- Jill, October 2021 -
June “Cottage was really comfortable everything you needed was there, but the only downside was the flies.”
The owners did put in a fly catching system but we had to try and get rid ourselves with fly spray, books, newspapers etc. Apart from that, brilliant, excluding the weather. Great time
- June, August 2021 -
Matthew “Really lovely, spacious cottage.”
Very comfortable, lovely garden area. Beautiful, quiet setting.

Wendy “The peace and quiet of the cottage and the lovely surrounding countryside.”

Josephine “When this holiday was booked there was no Wifi at the property.”
No Wifi was a requirement as a member of the family becomes very ill when subjected to Wifi and I did explain this when booking. Subsequently Wifi was installed but I was not informed although I was told in April 2021 that it was not installed and at that date I was told that there was a note about not wanting it with my booking. The owner turned off the Wifi supply but we also found that other items producing Wifi or similar radiation were present in the cottage. Although the cottage itself was very good we shall not be booking through Sykes again. I would like you to publish this feedback but I don't think you will.
- Josephine, June 2021 -
Karen “Beautiful cottage wonderful location will definitely go back”
- Karen, June 2021 -
Liz “Wonderfully quiet, dark sky environment.”
Two of us shared the cottage - a lovely king size bedded room each. Very clean throughout. Kitchen had a good supply of equipment and the layout of open-plan sitting area, dining area and kitchen was fine for two of us and small dog. The fenced patio outside was very appealing and a delightful place to sit out, watching birds in the trees nearby. A delightful, relaxing place and hope to visit again.

We book many holidays with you as we like the sort of accommodation you provide Maybe think the cooker and hob could do with an update, if I’m being super critical Definitely go back , which has to be the best recommendation

Suzanne “Wow! The photographs of this cottage do not do it justice.”
It’s huge, so homely and comfortable and has EVERYTHING you need. Great base for exploring Northumberland which is a beautiful place. Best UK holiday we’ve been on. 5*
- Suzanne, October 2020 -
Susie “We had a lovely week in a great location, within close reach of so many beautiful places.”
The cottage was very clean and well equipped. Thoroughly recommend a visit to Chillingham castle and estate. Just a small point about the cottage. The garden is not fully enclosed and we had to make sure our dog didn’t stray onto the adjacent road, as local traffic passes by at quite a fast pace at certain times of the day.
- Susie, October 2020 -
Julie “The cottage is well positioned to get to all local attractions and is warm & cosy retreat at end of the day.”
Really enjoyed our break away & would recommend
- Julie, October 2020 -
Pamela “This cottage is the best we have ever stayed in and we felt immediately at home.”
The rooms are large and well-furnished and the cutlery, crockery, and sofas were new (replaced since the photos on the website). The bathroom and en-suite were lovely, and everything was immaculately clean. The situation, near the A1, was very handy for travel to the coast or the beautiful countryside inland and we didn't hear any traffic noise. In fact during the week the A1 was amazingly quiet. Tractors did occasionally go past ,much to our dog's annoyance, but this is a farm road, and behind the cottage. The patio is very private, though not completely enclosed, but at the end of September we didn't have the French doors open. In summer you would have to watch your dog didn't wander out of the grounds. We found the heating very easy to operate, and there is a log burner (with a plentiful supply of logs) for very cold weather, though we didn't need it.. A great deal of thought has gone into the furnishings and equipment in this holiday cottage and it is a credit to the owners. We have every intention of returning.
- Pamela, September 2020 -
Deborah “Booking was simple on line, having booked with Sykes before.”
Lovely cottage, clean and well prepared with hand sanitiser, and little extras such as tea, coffee and milk were a nice touch. Cottage was nice and peaceful, secluded set away from main road. Good communication from owner too.
- Deborah, September 2020 -
Lisa “A lovely cottage to relax in after a day exploring.”
It was clean and comfortable and big enough for the 5 of us and our dog. The outside area was brilliant for the kids and dog to run around. The only downside was we had to come home after a week, I should have booked two!!. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this little gem and we’ll definitely be back.
- Lisa, August 2020 -
Sarah “We had a lovely time in the cottage and the location was perfect to have a peaceful holiday while being a short drive away from the local attractions like Holy Island.”
The cottage was clean, cosy, and plenty of space for a family of 6 and a dog. For the first time in a long time,we've actually been able to relax. There was plenty of local footpaths for evening strolls with the dog. The cottage came with everything we needed and the 2 pints of milk that was in the fridge on arrival was a lovely touch so that we could get a cuppa on when we arrived as the local co-op is located in the village of Belford which is about 2.5 miles away. The log burner was a lovely touch to feel cosy on a cold evening. It also helped there being a separate washer and dryer so we were able to stay on top of the washing while away. Ultimately, it was a perfect place to stay.
- Sarah, February 2020 -
Victoria “Great cottage in an excellent location.”
Lovely and cosy with the fire and owners who are responsive to queries. Cottage is definitely more than a mile from the village both on foot and by car! So not as the listing would suggest. Would certainly recommend
- Victoria, February 2020 -
Dean “Gardeners cottage exceeded expectations.”
Cottage location was great for walking our dog and to access main local attractions. The owner was really friendly and helpful. We were a family of 6 with our dog. The accommodation had spacious rooms and all facilities within the cottage were of a high standard. The cottage had everything you needed to make the holiday an enjoyable experience. This was our first visit to this area and we had a nice relaxing break and would love to return during the spring / summer. I would recommend a stay in Gardeners Cottage great value, very relaxing and a quiet location
- Dean, February 2020 -
Heather “During a cold week in October the cottage was warm and welcoming.”
It was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed for a very enjoyable week self catering for a mixed party of two senior citizens, two adults and two boys aged 9 and 6. Although out of the way the cottage is on Sainsbury's delivery route and within easy access of a well stocked Co-Op in Belford. We were welcomed by the Farmer who lives just up the lane and on hand should any problems arose, which they didn't. There are some good walks from the cottage including to Cuthberts Cave which is on land owned by the farm and well worth a visit for fun climbing for the kids and a wonderful view from the top of the rock outcrop. The whole area offers many walks either on the coast or in the Cheviots. For the kids we spent time at Hatherslaw Mill plus little train, Chillingham Castle which is brilliant and a spooky must, a boat trip to the Farnes and up the lighthouse on Longstone ( lots of seals and a few young puffins), Holy Island and watching the tide come in across the road and a lot of time on both sandy beaches and rocky shores. A memorable week in the great outdoors!

Claire “Excellent holiday!”
Superb garden for our 3 year old to run around in! Private and secluded cottage within great reach of the fabulous beaches!
- Claire, August 2019 -
Sharon “Not worthy of 5✔️‘s.”
Whilst cottage was very nice and with good quality furniture and in a good location we were plagued by flies which made it uncomfortable to be in. Luckily we had good weather and could stay out as long as possible. There was an awful smell in twin bedroom which meant it couldn’t be used. The bedding was well worn and quilts very dense and could do with being replaced.Would be a good idea for owner to have separate store/shed to store outdoor equipment rather than in the utility room so that you could actually access the room without having to move things around.
- Sharon, June 2019 -
Michael “Rooms where very good and location great, but, there was a bad smell coming from the sink and a lot of flies in the property.”
Miss the wi-fi will probably look elsewhere next year.
- Michael, June 2019 -
Christine “.nice cottage and location .”
Owners helpful and responsive to requests.
- Christine, June 2019 -
Judith “The cottage was a very comfortable size and the furniture was comfortable and well kept.”
It had all the necessary facilities but there was no real 'care' for the people renting the cottage; there were cobwebs around the doors, the filter and water condenser in the tumble drier were full so obviously hadn't been checked by the cleaner or owner. It was kind to have left two pints of milk - but that was all that was left! I think it's unkind to expect holiday makers to have to take basics like salt and pepper, oil and vinegar. Also there was a distinct lack of appropriate cooking tools; frying pans, oven trays.... given that the cottage can accommodate 6 people. In the information, it described the cottage as being 1mile out of Belford, well it was almost a mile to the top of the drive before the drive into Belford - in fact it nearer to 2.5 miles which made it a little remote.

Susan “Cottage was very well equipped, clean, cosy and warm.”
Lots of extra touches not always found in rental properties. Our dog enjoyed the little stream at every opportunity and we were lucky enough with the weather to be able to use the patio furniture and barbecue.
- Susan, April 2019 -
Paul “The cottage is perfect out of the way and very relaxing.”
Would stay again. We had a lovely week, the weather was good, lots of things to see in easy reach. The owner met us explained things about the cottage then left us to it all good.
- Paul, March 2019 -
Tracy “Gardeners Cottage is really well located close to the Coastal route.”
The cottage was extremely comfortable and the owners had thought of everything. We would definitely book the cottage again if we visit the area.
- Tracy, February 2019 -
David “A lovely comfortable cottage in a very peaceful location.”
Great walks from the cottage, so that we didn’t use the car for three days! Spacious and well equipped. No WiFi, but we did have good reception with Giffgaff. If only the garden was fully secure so that we could let the dog out it would be perfect!
- David, December 2018 -
Sam “Great location with easy access to lots of amazing places, Holy Island, Alnwick Castle, Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh.”
No phone signal in and around to cottage but rather than Google there were many leaflets and ideas of places to visit available in the cottage.
- Sam, October 2018 -
Simon “Fantastic cottage in an amazing woodland area.”
Lots of deer to be spotted Great location for visiting local sights like Holy Island etc.
- Simon, August 2018 -
Jeremy “This really is a very comfortable cottage.”
We were 3 adults and a labrador so space was not an issue but even for 6 people there is ample room. Most impressive was the range of items provided for the guests' use - all the cutlery, crockery and utensils along with microwave, dishwasher and so forth. Best of all was the separate laundry room with washer and tumble drier. The furnishings are of a high standard, the bedding and towels first class and, most importantly, the beds were very comfortable. We also liked the isolation and privacy at Gardener's Cottage and the dog appreciated his own large area of grass to entertain himself in! Downsides? Not really. If staying connected via the internet is important it is worth noting that there is no wifi and the phone signal is patchy but 4g is available in Belford, about 2 miles away. We had very good weather during our stay but I noticed that the cottage was centrally heated and had a wood-burning stove. I can imagine it would be very cosy to come back to after a bracing walk on a cold December day. I would unhesitatingly recommend the Cottage - we have experienced good and bad in the past and this has been one of the best.
- Jeremy, July 2018 -
Elaine “The cottage was really lovely and in a beautiful area, it is so well placed for sightseeing all down the Northumberland coast, we even got a train from Berwick-Upon-Tweed to Edinburgh.”
Lexi our greyhound thought it was wonderful with all the walks we went on and the whole place is very dog friendly, think we will book there again and would recommend it to anyone who wanted a really chilled out holiday.
- Elaine, June 2018 -

Richard “Gardener's Cottage was wonderful and the photos don't really do it justice – it was much more spacious inside than we were expecting, and also had a lawned area next to the patio which was great for kids and dogs to play on.”
Fantastic location on a quiet lane, with no other properties nearby, so very private. Plenty of peace and quiet, with just birdsong and the sound of the river. Also little light pollution, so great views of the night sky!
- Richard, April 2018 -
Sean “We holiday in Northumberland 3-4 times each year and Gardeners Cottage is definitely one of the best holiday homes we have ever stayed in.”
The Cottage was warm and welcoming when we arrived - unlike several properties we have had the misfortune of staying in during the winter months. Very clean and comfortable with excellent consideration given to guest comfort - we would not hesitate to book the cottage again. Lovely & private location but close to local amenties of Belford & Berwick and the excellent local beaches. Can also recommend the Kielder Observatory - well worth a visit.
- Sean, March 2018 -

Annabel “Lovely spacious cottage in a delightful woodland setting with excellent walks from the door.”
The cottage is on its own - bliss! A point to note is that we both have Vodafone mobiles & struggled for any signal in the cottage and even surrounding area. (Other networks may be different). But this suited us just fine! The cottage was very well equipped, very warm & comfortable. We have stayed in quite a number of cottages but this was definitely one of our favourites. The owner called in to see us & was very welcoming . Little extras like tea, coffee, sugar & milk on arrival were a nice touch. Highly recommended!
- Annabel, October 2016 -

Luke “The property is in a superb location just a few miles from the coast.”
Having access to Bamburgh, Seahouses, Alnwick and Lindisfarne just made the holiday experience even more enjoyable. Belford also has a fun chip shop which rounded off our wonderful holiday. The property itself is perfectly spacious for 6 adults and the log fire was a huge plus. The beds were super comfy as well. The owners visited to check we were settled and are happy for you to get in touch if you have any queries or required anything. We would totally recommend this place for your next family holiday!!
- Luke, October 2015 -
Linda “Gardeners Cottage was perfect, all of the rooms were beautiful and so clean we were amazed at the very high standard.”
The owners have thought of every thing to make the cottage comfy and cosy. The outside space was lovely too, peaceful but not to far from the village. We loved the area and will definitely be back.
- Linda, October 2015 -

The surrounding area is wonderfully quiet with lots of wildlife to sit and watch, even in February.
- Ian, February 2015 -
Annette “Gardner's Cottage is the best we have ever rented, either here or abroad.”
The place was really well equipped and the furnishings were excellent. We loved everything about it. I gave four stars to the sitting area only because we felt that a couple of side tables would have been good - we were afraid of leaving cups of coffee or glasses of wine on the beautiful wooden floor, and the coffee table was quite a distance from some of the seating. A minor thing really, this place is very good. Well done to the owners.
- Annette, October 2014 -
Terry “We had a superb week in an outstanding property amongst some of the most beautiful countryside the UK has to offer.”
