“West Gate is in a great location and the owner had mown paths down to the beach and the village, which was very useful for going walking.”
The property is finished to a high standard, especially the bathroom. However, it's much smaller than the photos suggest; you can't open the washing machine or walk round the table without moving the sofas, and the bedrooms are tiny. Okay for a couple, but four adults would be dreadfully cramped. The sofas and bed linen are cheap and not of the quality I would expect in a self-professed luxury cottage. We stayed for 2 weeks and the owner said we would have to pay an additional charge to have clean bed linen after the first week!
The hot tub was nice, although a wind-break would be good, and like other visitors we were disappointed to find that it cannot be used on Fridays - we didn't know this when we booked. The swimming pool is lovely, especially when you have it to yourself, but we lost one of our slots because of extended servicing (no apology or replacement slot offered), and we used it less than we wanted to because of the non-negotiable allocation of time-slots, which gave us no early morning slots (some properties had 2 per week), but almost all afternoon/evening slots, when we had other things planned. Given that the pool was a major differentiator in our choosing West Gate, it was disappointing.
We have stayed in lots of luxury properties in the UK and don't feel that West Gate compares well to others in the same price bracket, or offers good value for money. We enjoyed our holiday because Northumberland is gorgeous (we used to live there and knew this beforehand), but we wouldn't go back to this site.
