“The cottage is excellent, worth a 4star rating rather than the three star rating.”
We enjoyed relaxing in the cottage, it is very warm and cosy, plenty of hot water for a long soak in the bath. The main double bed was extremely comfy and we slept very well. It is very quiet in the cottage and has parking outside.
The Tv is superb, with sky tv, and sky good speed WiFi, to enable you to plan day visits using the internet each night.
The property is comfy, a high standard of renovation to a lovely holiday cottage. Lucca our weimaraner loved the cottage, and its closeness to the harbour bar area for walks.
Well situated after long days walking on the beaches at alnmouth, druridge, low newton, bamburgh, and days out at craster, seahouses, warkworth and alnwick.
We cooked a hot meal each evening, 4 frying pans, 1 milk pan 2 very large stock pans and utensils were in the kitchen.
Only criticism is the kitchen could have done with 1-2 medium size pans, and a medium or large casserole dish. We had to buy disposable foil casserole dishes from queens street hardware store. A bread bin may be good too. We still managed to make lovely evening meals each night.
We only had one really wet day, when we rested in the afternoon at the cottage, after a morning exploring Amble in the rain and drizzle. We purchased a children's draughts set which we left with the cottages jigsaws on the bookcase.
We love Amble which is really friendly and welcoming, queen street barkery does lovely gluten free cakes.
We love the village cafe in Alnmouth staffed by people from Amble, who are very dog friendly and they do fab coffee and gluten free cakes, for each afternoon with a loyalty card buy 5 drinks get 6th free.
Alnwick is close by for Sainsburys, Aldi and Lidl to buy in our main shopping for weekly food for breakfast and evening meals.
Lucca, our weimaraner is made welcome in Northumberland, especially in Amble which is really dog friendly. He loves walks on the beaches daily. We are both disabled walking with one and myself 2 arm crutches. so find druridge, alnmouth, bamburgh, and low newton beaches very accessible.
This is our third Sykes cottage holiday in Northumberland we love staying in Amble as our base.
Of course we will be back at Amble, with Sykes, we were sad we hadn't booked a two week break. Unfortunately Lightkeeper House is so popular it often doesn't have a 2 week slot available, so 1 week had to be booked instead of 2 weeks.
This is the best and most homely and comfy Sykes cottage we have stayed in so far, we will be 're booking soon for next year.
The visitors book is full of wonderful comments by people who loved the cottage and want to return again.
