“Sofas, could be a bit higher, as difficult to get out of.”

Wasn't told about the building site next door, as the music was extremely loud from the workmen. But the area was amazing and the walking trails were great, nice and quiet beach, once the building next door is finished, it will be very peaceful, definitely will be returning.

“This is the second time we have stayed at this property and for us it is in an ideal position and my disabled husband can be at the beach in a few steps wuth a cuppa watching the world go by.”

Some parts of the property could do with a little bit maintenance but we have already booked for next year and would recommend . Ideal position on a bridle path with long walks and wildlife and right on the beach and only two miles from amble.

“This is the third time we have stayed at Sandy Knowes and, once again, we have had a lovely time there.”

Cinty is a lovely host - very welcoming and really wants to ensure her guests have a relaxing time. The welcome pack of teabags, biscuits, eggs from.her own hens was a lovely touch. The cottage is clean, comfortable and, for us at least, has a definite ''hone from home' feeling. Our friend came with us this time and she also said the same. The beach is literally a 2 minute walk from the house and affords views across to Coquet Island and to.Druridge Bay. The views across the bay from the landing window are stunning - particularly in tne morning. Druridge Bay Country Park is about 2 or 3 miles walk away along the Coast Path (which runs alongside the cottage) and is well worth a visit. All in all, Sandy Knowes is a really good base for exploring the beautiful.stretch of coastline, including Berwick, Bamburgh, Seahouses, Alnmouth, Craster, Dunstanburgh, Warkworth and, of course, Amble. Castles galore on that stretch!!! Please note that I have given facilities and maintenance a 3 rating simply because the outside parking area is AWAITING some attention. This is not due to neglect by Cinty. It is because, as I understand it, that area has only very recently come under Cinty's ownership. It is perfectly acceptable as a parking space and I only mention it because of some comments in the visitor book. It certainly didnt bother us! It is probably now big enough to accommodate 2 medium size cars - but would be best to check that before arriving / booking as there is no on street parking in the village. All in all, a lovely place to.stay and we will definitely be back for a 4th stay. Thank you Cinty. Ann and Andrew Rodgers

“Lovely location although constant traffic and walkers along the lane means that as there’s no blind or window covering on lounge there’s very little privacy when sitting and relaxing.”

Minor issue is that the Sofas in the lounge are a little well worn. Cinty has ensured that the facilities in the cottage especially in the kitchen are excellent. There’s nothing you could wish for that isn’t available. It was a nice touch on arrival to find a cheese board, coffee for the cafetière and fresh eggs from her own hens. The cottage is situated in an excellent area for exploring Northumberland and we even went up to the Scottish Borders. All told we had a lovely week.

“We had a brilliant stay in Sandy Knowles cottage.”

It is cosy, has everything you need for an holiday and has a truly traditional ambience. Weather was inclement but we still had walks on the beach as it is just across the road ….and stretched for miles. The beds are very comfortable and we slept really well because the village is tucked away on an access only road. We agreed our stay had been truly magical and a return stay is a must.

“Great location with stunning views.”

The house was perfect for our stay. Upon arrival a lovely cheese board and wine welcome gift. We took the opportunity to light the log burner most evenings! The house was clean, comfortable and plenty of room. Met a few local residents who were very welcoming. Beautiful walks straight from the door step. Lots of eateries in Amble were dog friendly. Great communication from the owner. Great cottage and would happily recommend.

In a great location 2 minutes from a nice sandy beach. Near to the amenities in Amble. Loads of places to see in the area .Cottage was very clean and tidy. The sofas were a little too low and soft for us, not very comfortable but it did not spoil our holiday. Owner was very nice and informative. Would highly recommend.

The cottage is in a wonderful spot just yards from a sandy beach. The coast path runs right past it and it is approximately 2 miles to the stunning Druridge Bay Countrg Park and the same distance to Amble. “I'm struggling to put into words the disappointment of our stay at Sandy Knowles.”

Had we paid around £600 for our week then we could have left with a feeling that the accommodation, while a bit grim, adequately facilitated our stay in Low Hauxley, a place we know well and love. As it was, £1175 was way overpriced and we left feeling totally fleeced. Our overriding feeling of Sandy Knowles was of dirt, damp and darkness. The view of the sea from the landing would have been the one plus point had the window not been shot and the view obscured by trapped condensation. The kitchen was well equipped but we had no desire to eat there because the whole place felt grubby… empty bottles by the bins, surrounded by weeds and overgrown vegetation. My supply of white socks was brown by the end of the week. Given the condition of the rest of the cottage, we stripped the beds with trepidation at the end of our stay, to be unsurprisingly rewarded with stained bedding. This reinforced our concern that our fresh insect bites were probably due to Sandy Knowles. We left a day earlier than planned, not because of the unscheduled bore drilling at the adjacent property but because of the general feeling of scratchiness and ultimate let down. It was a relief to get home. The location is fabulous. It would not take much to bring Sandy Knowles up to a decent standard of accommodation. In the meantime, the prices should be lowered significantly and prospective guests warned of the negatives. Photos are available if needed.

I mirror your feelings of disappointment and being as you put it 'fleeced' Your feedback is extremely well communicated on the Sykes feedback however I find it very disappointing that you did not raise any issues during your stay or give me the opportunity to try to resolve any issues you had . Some aspects of your feedback are totally out of my control , the land next to cottage does not belong to me and therefore I have no control over it likewise the drilling is something I cannot control . With regard to your insect bites which you blame on the cottage , may I signpost you to the NHS website which indicates that visits to insect bites page has reached 261,364 triple to those seen in June 2022 . Ruth May of NHS England states that " The number of people seeking advice from the NHS website has really spiked this year, suggesting there has been a significant increase" I have had no reported insect bites from any visitors since starting letting the cottage in 2015. With regard to cleanliness and comfort I have a scoring of 91 on average and the previous visitors whilst they did not opt to publish feedback stated" cottage was clean , tidy and very cosy with a well stocked kitchen . I am sorry that you did not enjoy your holiday and more sorry that you did not communicate this at the start of your stay . Property Owner

“Just back from a weeks stay at Sandy Knowes cottage, and would definitely stay here again!”

The beach is literally a few steps across from the cottage and the view from the upstairs windows are absolutely Amazing! The cottage itself is a little dated and could do with a bit of an update, but apart from that it was really spacious, comfortable and very homely with everything to hand. The cottage is in a Great location for walking and exploring the wildlife, and the beach is great for our furry friends ... Stanley loved it! Can't wait to return. Thank you!

“Great property perfect for the beach.”

Some great walks from the door. Nature reserves in easy walking and a country park. Weather was good and walk through the dunes into Amble were great. All in all we had a great week. “The cottage was absolutely perfect for our family, we had everything we needed.”

The close proximity to the beach was such a bonus, our kid and the dog loved it. I was up early most mornings enjoying the beach to myself. The bed were the most comfortable I've experienced in years of staying in holiday cottages, and after a week we were all so well rested. We enjoyed the wood stove for the cosy heat it provided. Overall this was one of the best cottages we have stayed in, in a beautiful part of the country. We visited Druridge country park which was excellent for kayaking and wild swimming with the dog, and Cragside Manor which is stunning and not to be missed.

“The property was as described very clean and the position to the beach was great.”

The only thing against it was the sofa`s and chaires in the loung as they wear very soft and as my wife has had both har knees replaced it was a problem for her to get up out of them, this had been noted by another visiter. This is the only negative, a great property would stay again.

“We had a lovely time here in this cottage on the whole and the location is perfect looking out to the sea every day.”

Lots of lovely walks nearby and great for dogs and birdwatching. However a few things left amiss in the cottage such as no curtains in one bedroom and other things let the stay down a bit. A good overhaul of the cottage is needed by a professional in the building or electrical trade to bring the very old place upto date. The kitchen and bathroom has been done well but the living area could do with new furniture as the seats are very low. Beds are very comfortable after a day out and about exploring. Generally the location of the place makes up for any issues with the housekeeping. We have been coming to this area for a few years now and it is growing fast from a quiet backwater to a very busy area now as popularity has grown since the lockdowns of recent times. So future holidaymakers may expect more comfort in the cottage.

In response to your feedback I. I am pleased that you had a lovely time however would like to clarify the point you raised regarding the electrics being brought up to date. The electrics in the property are up to date and have undergone their regulatory tests earlier this year . It is an older property and retains it originality . With regard to the furniture it is exactly as indicated on the Sykes website . I'm sorry you did not find the sofa comfortable but I'm delighted that the beds were comfy and you slept well.It is a great location and a simple cottage as you say guests may prefer more comfort and facilities and there are a wide range of cottages to suit all tastes. That meant a long walk to Amble for food and drink (if one wanted to have alcohol). As an older property, there was a bit of dust accumulation due to exposed walls. Apart from that it had everything and more we could wish for. Comfortable, close to a lovely beach and access to local sights and attractions.

No information folder but don't know if it had been removed because of covid and only complaint I would make is that they could do with an anti slip mat in the bath. We had a lovely time, didn't really want to go home and will definitely book this cottage again.

“This was our fourth or fifth visit to Sandy Knowes, we love the location, and so close to the beach, walking and cycle trails and the Discovery Centre.”

The local residents are friendly, we never go out without chatting to someone. It’s a popular tourist area but where the cottage is located is free of cars wanting to park near the beach, as it’s not allowed. The coastline is beautiful and walking is an absolute pleasure. The cottage does not have a garden but the beach is less than a minute’s walk from the front door. There is a nice view from the front bedroom. A great getaway.

also a freezer you are not near a shop so I took a lots of things with me, for me personally I don't want to spend my holiday food shopping. Because of covid I cleaned everything in the kitchen before I used it. Would have preferred a shower mat as bath was slippy. But we did enjoy the break. The dog loved the beach.

“Sandy Knowes is a very pleasant cottage in a peaceful location.”

It was clean and tidy with good facilities such as a washing machine. The bottle of wine on arrival was a welcoming touch. The beach is across the road as stated. Getting on to it was a bit of an adventure. Access is via a very steep, pebbly slope. I did manage to negotiate it on my crutches but I can't say it was a safe thing to do. It may be wise to point this out to future visitors if it isn't already on your website. (I didn't have the crutches when we booked so I didn't check for accessibility.)

“Know the area well but first time in this cottage.”

Equipped ok, pity no tea towels and a bit skimpy on handwash, most supply this now. Heating was fine, woodburner an asset in February and sound of sea great, barely 100 metres from beach and coastal path.Amble a good area, plenty good pubs and restaurants and ample shops. Cottage ideal for Nature Reserve which also has a great cafe. Would return again.

“The cottage was clean and had all the facilities we needed, the weather was freezing cold while we were there but the cottage was lovely and warm.”

The only down side to the property was the parking facilities. We now only have a small car so the area given over to the cottage was adequate but if we had still got our 4x4 it would have been totally inadequate has we would have been parked over the green gates, the person with all the signs up about not parking in front of these gates did not even open the gates or move his car all the time we were there.

I’m so impressed with the accommodation. It was clean with a lovely bottle of wine and nice biscuits. The sitting room is very comfortable with a leather suite, sky TV, log burner, nest of tables and a table and chairs to sit at. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need. The bath room is ideal with a good shower and lovely bath. The bed is comfortable again with all you need. The location is ideal with a very short walk to the sandy and safe beach. If your into walking or cycling the cottage is superbly located. I would highly recommended this cottage.

My husband and I rarely eat out as we just like to relax over a meal with a nice bottle of wine when we're on holiday. So it was lovely to find such a well equipped kitchen, and a lovely dinner service. We couldn't have asked for more. with the beach just across the road, and the coastal path and country park right on the doorstep, just made for a wonderful relaxing holiday, our border collie Bess, just loved the beach and the many varied walks. The owner was very helpful, and hopefully we shall return here in the near future.

“While the location is 10 out of 10 there were a few things we were disappointed in.”

The parking is not obvious and I had to contact the owner to clarify it, there needs to be a clear sign saying Sandy Knowes parking as the current signs say "No Parking". When we first went into the cottage, and for the full week we stayed, there was a smell like wet dog in the kitchen. While we appreciate the fact that it is a dog friendly cottage we have stayed in a lot of properties that are dog friendly and not had this problem before, maybe if the carpet in the kitchen was replaced with wood or stone flooring it would solve the issue. The bathroom needs some attention, the shower curtain particular needs replacing. In the living room wall lights have been put up but the brick dust has not been cleaned up. The cottage is ideal for the beach and for the Nature Reserve which you can walk to, and is a good base to travel around the area. The village is in a nice quiet location, and we really slept well.

“This was our second visit to this quiet comfortable house.”

It is clean and well equipped with two big sofas to relax in,a perfect bedroom with a view of the sea and a spacious bathroom. The night light on the landing is a thoughtful addition. A welcome packet of biscuits and a bottle of wine are generous and better than a carton of milk. The beach being just across the road is another added attraction and a delight for the dog. We love visiting Northumberland and will be staying here again hopefully as it is one of the best houses we have stayed in.

Stepping outside to the beach every morning was a total dream. Amble/Alnwick/Bamburgh and lots of other towns were a short, easy drive away. Warkworth was a lovely little place, very close with nice dog friendly tea rooms and pub, with a beautiful beach too. The cottage was spacious and had everything we needed, very clean and well decorated. Couldn’t ask for much more! Will definitely be staying again soon.

The beach is stunning and when the tide is out you can walk for miles. There is loads to do in this area we had a very active week and would definitely return to this cottage. We expected to the cottage to be small but we were very impressed by how much space we had & it is very comfortable! The only down side would be that it would be good to have some enclosed outside space, but when you have a beach right opposite, it more than makes up for it.

The cottage was also conveniently located for visits to Alnwick, Seahouses, Farne Islands, Craster and Alnmouth. We'll certainly be back! The hamlet of Low Hauxley is situated at the northern end of Druridge Bay, a four-mile stretch of sand dunes and white sands. Less than two miles away is the seaside port of Amble, which is situated at the mouth of the River Coquet and offers a marina, a harbour, sandy beaches and coastal walks. Just a mile south of Amble is Coquet Island, an RSPB reserve with a large population of terns, puffins and eider ducks, and boat trips around the island can be arranged. The pretty coastal villages of Alnmouth and Craster are only a short drive away, whilst picturesque Warkworth with its castle, charming Alnwick with its castle and award-winning gardens, and the National Trust’s Wallington Hall and Cragside are all within easy reach.
