“It was very comfortable, well presented and laid out.”

The cleanliness was of a very high standard. The location is ideal for a relaxed no pressure break. The car parking arrangements are very good and the fact it is on the property, not the street, is a huge bonus. Very much felt more relaxed here than in some other rentals, which have come across as quite utilitarian , where as here we felt a much more "homely" atmosphere. The owner runs a very efficient and courteous pre and post stay "operation" which , frankly, stands out from other ...

The owner runs a very efficient and courteous pre and post stay "operation" which , frankly, stands out from other experiences in a very positive manner. We would like to thank the owner for providing such a high standard of service that contributed greatly to our stay. Ideal for access to the coastal walks and nature reserves and the local pub (Ship Inn) serves an excellent menu for both food and locally brewed beers. Highly recommended.

“Super place; super 3 day stay.”

Great position with fab views out front. Spick and span and really comfortable. It really needs a washing machine though but I'm not sure where that could be put. Plus keep your wellies/shoes inside if the window cleaner calls - we didn't and instead of drying in the sun, they got soaked!! Finally, need to sort out the confusing info colour coding on rubbish bin/collection colours. Apart from those minor quibbles, a marvellous place to stay in.

“Have had a lovely stay.”

Cottage was very clean and looks like this has been updated fairly recently in bathroom and kitchen. The kitchen facilities were quite small but as this is a very old cottage it has been done very sympathetically. Perfect base for the beach and walks in the area. We hardly used our car which was a bonus. Would stay again.

“There was no linen or towels and toilet paper we had to call the owner to arrange.”

When house maid turned up she said house not been cleaned The heating system was poor house cold on arrival and unable to adjust radiators to compensate.they eventually came in later in night but not the back bedroom that at 0730 for a few hours despite fottowing instructions to adjust, during the whole stay the bedroom was cool apart from using a free standing heater The icing on the cake a power cut from Sunday eve 1900 till 0230 in the morning Apart from these comments satisfactory I would like some form of compensation for are inadequate arrival experience!! I look forward to your response

“An immaculately clean and comfy cottage.”

Well equipped kitchen with everything that was needed. I wish all holiday cottages had ovens and baking trays as clean as this one! The shower is the only thing that I could pick fault in, it was a weak and minimal spray from the jet. However it did a job and was adequate for a weeks holiday. My only other comment is that I wish it had been mentioned in the initial write up that wetsuits were not to be ‘brought or stored in the property’. Had this information been available prior to booking I would not have booked. However my week was good weather so swimming gear and wetsuits could be dried in the garden on the clothes drier provided. A great location for beach and outdoor swimming and wildlife enthusiasts.

The house is very cosy and had everything we needed. The garden is fantastic and the location is superb. It would have been lovely to have a washing machine but maybe we should be happy to not to do the washing for a week

“While this cottage is lovely - and this is the second time we've stayed here -I have to bring up the beds, which are not massively comfortable, and in particular the pillows, which are just lumps of concrete.”

To the point we had to go into Alnwick to buy pillows after two bad nights' sleep. Please, please replace your pillows. Could also do with some blankets to use on cold nights.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. I am sorry you found the beds uncomfortable, this is the first complaint we have received of this nature. The beds in 3B Coastguard Cottages are brand new. We supply a variety of different types of pillows in the property to try to accommodate to all guests tastes and comfort levels. There usually are throws on the beds but these have been removed to align with covid regulations, we do have a convector heater that can be moved from room to room on particularly cold nights. The property also has night storage heating. I have noticed you have booked to stay with us again in the future, I do hope your future stay is more comfortable. Property Owner

“The cottage is very well located and although fairly small is comfortable and is generally quite well equipped.”

The kitchen has everything you need and there is a very nice garden. The view from the south facing windows is of the coastline and there are also parking spaces clearly marked. It is just a short walk to a lovely beach and the pub nearby is also very good. There are lovely walks/runs both north and south along the coast. Personally I would prefer a holiday cottage with a washing machine as kids can get through a huge amount of clothing when the weather is variable and much time is spent on the beach but it is clear that there is not one available on the description so that is a choice when booking. Where the stay was disappointing was the lack of urgency by the host to resolve issues. At 3pm on the day of arrival (Saturday)we were told that the shower was not working and it was unknown when this would be fixed. This continued for the rest of the week of our stay until finally on our last day (Friday) it was repaired. I understand that these things can happen but an electric shower replacement is a relatively quick fix and it doesn't need to be the exact same model. On the arrival day the cottage was also cold because the storage heaters had not been on during the day so they were not putting out heat that evening. We therefore wanted to use the single convection heater but it was not working. This was not fixed during our week at the cottage. Once we had set the storage heaters they worked well for subsequent days, however these should be set by the cleaners earlier that day to a reasonable temperature for arriving guests. So after travelling all day on Saturday from Somerset to Northumberland with a 4 year old we arrived to no shower and a cold house that night. Ultimately the cottage is nice, comfortable and in a good location, however the issues such as the ones we experienced really should have been resolved far more rapidly by the host.

I am sorry to hear you experienced maintenance issues during your stay at the cottage. It is our intention for our visitors to have all advertised facilities for our property and we strive on having exceptional property standards. I was unable to get a 'like for like' unit, due to existing wiring and pipe work and without creating even more disruptions for your stay. A new replacement shower unit had to be ordered from Mira, sadly Mira did not initially send the correct unit, thus creating more delay. When the convector heater was tested, it was not faulty. It may have, 'cut out' as a safety measure when the temperature became too high. A refund of 20% has been organised via Sykes as compensation for the lack of an amenity during your stay. Lovely cottage in a beautiful picturesque location. Cottage was very clean and recently decorated. Cottage is yards from the beach and perfect for walks along the endless Northumberland beaches. Well located for access to other areas with a great choice of places to visit. We had a lovely time at the cottage. We had some very cold weather during our visit, but the cottage was very cosy and warm.

“A lovely cottage in a quiet location with sea views.”

If you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle, then this is for you. During our stay, we saw seals, Barn Owls hunting in daylight, two dolphin pods swimming and surfacing offshore, as well as lots of other interesting natural sights. There are excellent walks to be had straight from the cottage, either beach or countryside or a combination of both. We will definitely return to this little gem of a cottage. The owner kept us well informed before, during and after the holiday.

“This very comfortable cottage is in a fabulous location.”

Ideally placed for access to the stupendous beach, walking, wildlife and local sightseeing it made for a really wonderful long weekend. We wish we’d had longer and will definitely be booking again. One we’d worked out the parking it was ample for two cars. We didn’t use the garden but imagine in summer months it must be a real bonus and it added to the privacy of the cottage.

“We had a lovely stay but a couple of points: - Noise from the adjacent cottage came through the walls / front door readily - As there is a shared porch it often sounded like the neighbours door was open, even though it wasn't.”

Seems the walls are paper thin. Unfortunately we didn't have the relaxing evenings we expected - We missed having a dishwasher and washing machine. Washing up by hand was no problem but a washing machine would have been really useful as we were on holiday for a while and had some clothes we could have done with washing

“Northumberland has so many beautiful and fascinating places to visit.”

We have been coming for years, but had not been recently - this visit re-kindled our enthusiasm. The cottage is ideally sited for walks and car journeys north and south. The coast is beautiful and towns, harbours, castles, gardens are all within easy reach. Both Sykes and the owner made sure we felt taken care of. The cottage is clean and well-presented and has stunning sea views along Embleton Bay to Dunstanburgh Castle. We love it here. (Clothes storage/hanging is a challenge, but the advantages of this lovely site outweigh any inconveniences.)

The cottage was small but perfect for us, cosy and warm for an autumn booking. Immediate access to great coastal walks is a big asset. Watching the sunrise over the sea near Dunstanburgh Castle was worth coming for on its own! The excellent pub/restaurant in the village was fully booked when we wanted to go, not even room to sit down for a drink, you need to book in advance!

A terraced former coastguard's cottage in the popular village of Low Newton-by-the-Sea, near to Beadnell on the Northumberland Coast.

Nestled on the hillside and just a short stroll from the beach, this Low Newton-by-the-Sea cottage is the perfect destination for families wanting a seaside break.

This Northumberland cottage has two light and airy bedrooms, both with sash windows, and an open plan living area with original range fireplace and panoramic views along the beach to Embleton Bay and Dunstanburgh Castle beyond.

There is a large lawned garden with furniture which is shared with Coastguard Cottage next door, at the front of this Low Newton-by-the-Sea cottage, a safe haven for the children to play out, or for adults to sit and watch the sun go down at the end of a long day.

This Low Newton-by-the-Sea cottage is only a short walk from The Ship Inn, an award-winning pub, where the green to the front of the pub is always busy with people enjoying a drink whilst watching the fishing boats in the bay.

A short walk from the property will take you to the National Trust nature reserve Newton Pool, a fresh water lake behind the dunes and a breeding ground to numerous birds.

Bird hides are provided, including one hide being suitable for those with limited mobility.

There are excellent walks in every direction; travel north for a good brisk walk along the beach to Beadnell, a haven for watersports lovers, or travel south and you reach Embleton Bay, Dunstanburgh Castle and Craster, where you can sample the delights of a crab sandwich in the Jolly Fisherman or pick up some kippers from Robson's famous smokery.

There is so much to see and do in Northumberland with Alnwick Castle and gardens, Holy Island, Bamburgh, Warkworth and Berwick all within easy reach.

The small coastal village of Low Newton-by-the-Sea is situated on Northumberland's Heritage Coastline between the popular fishing villages of Craster, famous for its kippers, and Beadnell. Beadnell Bay offers excellent sandy beaches and there are spectacular coastal paths with wonderful scenery. The village has a pub which serves food and the historic town of Alnwick is only a short drive away.
