“A lovely place to stay and in a good location.”

Could do with a better clean considering you have to strip the beds, change the bins and the check in time is rather late. I would expect a better clean in between stays. We had to hoover the floor again before I felt comfortable letting my toddler play with her toys on the floor. The freezer is small which would have been fine if it had been defrosted as it was thick with ice and this meant we had even less space to put our food. The tumble dryer didn’t work as every time we tried to put it on the electrics tripped. A worn and tired property but with it being for sale as previous people said I doubt anything will be done about it.

A square table would take up less room which would allow another comfy seat as it’s a bit of a squeeze seating 4 in the sitting room but I understand this won’t happen as the property is for sale. Longframlington is a lovely wee village with great facilities and we will definitely be back to another house in the village.

“As the property is up for sale don’t really see the point !”

But it was a comfortable enough cottage clean kitchen,beds and bathroom. Furniture a bit tired in living room sofas uncomfortable and too low. However The water in the bath when you had a shower ? up to your ankles in disgusting dirty water obviously coming back up the drains. (Left a message on the day we left about drain in bathroom hope something has been done) Lovely village good base for visiting Northumberland.

“The pictures on the listing need updating as the front of the property looks nothing like the listing.”

The hedge/ bushes were overgrown. There is a different front door and a for sale sign outside (so we were not sure that this was the property initially). The cottage is also on a council estate and there were kids playing on the road when we pulled in and people sat on a sofa outside. We are never normally ones to complain but we feel we paid a premium for this property and it definitely was not a premium property. We actually ended up not staying at the property as we did not feel comfortable staying with our 6 month old. Totally disappointed in what we thought we had booked to what we turned up to. We stay at lots of cottages throughout the years, but unfortunately will not be booking back through Sykes again.

“Nice property in quiet village.”

Feels a little dated and furniture is basic in lounge but with so much to do around about it serves very well as a base. Bedroom is spacious and comfortable. TV was small. Was clean throughout. Village is lovely and the staff at local shop are very friendly and warm. A good base for exploring and most things/places are within an hours travel. Defo worth a stay if exploring the area but if looking to spend a lot of time at property it may be a little basic. Access and departure was easy and involved no interaction with anyone. More detailed instructions on how things work in property and what to do around the area would make it feel more personal.

“Well equipped and comfortable accommodation, with well considered facilities provided for dogs, like bowls and covers.”

Excellent local butcher and friendly pub, and handy access to local towns on coast and in countryside. Only issue was getting parked in the tight space when cars were constantly parked on the road opposite the gate, but otherwise a great centre for touring and visiting friends.

The cottage has everything you need for a great stay. Bedrooms are a good size and the cottage was warm and cosy. Longframlington Is a lovely village, close to both Alnwick and the coast. Village pubs in walking distance.

“Had a good stay.”

Loads of butterflies and birds in the garden and using the bird bath (tucked away). Nice to sit and watch them. Beds comfy, place was clean. Shower wasn't very good, couldn't get pressure and correct temperature. Other issue is the heating. Had it working until Thursday, when it wouldn't come on. We were leaving Friday so not a major issue. Very handy position for excursions. Pubs and bakery/cafe nearby an added bonus!

However there was a real problem with the damp in the downstairs bedroom and the heating didn’t seem to reach that bedroom. It was constantly cold. Other than that the bath was very flimsy.

“The cottage was on the whole clean, however tired and could do with some decorating and freshening up.”

The front and back gardens could both also do with cutting back and some general maintenance. The property also has a damp smell, probably due to it being partly an old stone property with the bathroom being an extension on the back. There was no proper welcoming pack but did eventually find instructions and contact details for the owner in a heap of leaflets and stuff chucked in a drawer. We enjoyed our holiday as the area is beautiful all this cottage needs is a bit of tlc to update it.

“The cottage is in a lovely location with a couple of pubs, shop, cafe etc minutes away.”

We had booked to take our dog but didn't in the end. The cottage was clean. The garden at the back was fine (not overgrown as some reviewers had found it). The kitchen was well equipped although, the oven could do with a clean. The upstairs bedroom is lovely with a very comfortable bed. We didn't use the twin room downstairs. The bathroom was fine apart from the fact when standing in the bath for a shower, the bath felt very flimsy and therefore didn't feel very sturdy standing in it. The living room has a very low sofa and chair. We did find the living room did smell (couldn't quite decide if it was damp or a dog smell or a combination of both). We opened the window every morning and when we were in and by the end of the week it was much better. The furniture was of good quality. There was a welcome bottle of wine, loo roll, washing up liquid, cleaning cloths and a tea towel. Although we didn't take our dog, there were baskets in the kitchen with plenty of items to use eg blankets etc for your pet.

Cobwebs, garden front & back overgrown & tired, pots/pans poor quality, unsafe plus utensils old, sink plug doesn't work, lack of storage space in kitchen & badly used. Random radiators coming on in strange places. Airer broken, pegs but no washing line. Electrics - light switches and other electrics that don't work and multi plug extension in washing machine cupboard that became disconnected and feel this is unsafe, unable to switch off cooker. No machine explanation booklets. Wine a nice touch but milk or other essentials would be more useful

“This let is a bit tired.”

All the cupboards are full of junk. The main bedroom was really nice with good cupboard space. The 2nd bedroom had mouldy walls behind the curtain. The gardens were untended and overgrown. It looks like someone lived there then had to do a moonlight flit. That being said the area is great round there. Great central location. Good pub at the end of the road and a great Running Fox cafe. Dog walking field within 300 yards.

“Lots to like about the cottage.”

Bedroom was super size and bed was very comfortable. Kitchen had everything you needed and generally the cottage was clean. There are lots of old cobwebs in the lounge and especially in the main bedroom. The main issue was the garden. It was totally unusable as it was completely overgrown it was a shame because it’s a fabulous sun trap on an evening gone to waste.

“We loved the area.”

We had a great week out and about. The cottage was well equipped but could have been cleaner, considering we could not check in until 5pm! When we arrived some areas had not been mopped. The oven also needed cleaning. The garden was full of dog poop! We are not talking a missed pile, my husband picked up 2 dog waste bags full after stepping in a pile and walked it into the kitchen. It was dark and the 1st night so we assumed that it would be clear. I know in your email you ask that the garden is left clean but it should be checked. The beds were comfortable so we slept well, which is always a bonus when you are not in your own bed. The settee and chair are both very low, deep and the backs seem to have the cushions missing. They are not comfortable to sit on. We the above being said, it did not spoil our time. We had a lovely stay in a great village that has everything you need.

“Great cottage and location.”

We have stayed in the village before and the amenities are very good. We had a lovely stay. The cottage had everything we needed and benefitted from having an enclosed garden for the dog. Beds were very comfortable and clean. The extra bedroom was excellent. Only issue were the stairs where the carpet grips poked through and were sharp. We would definitely book this cottage again in the future. Thanks.

Lovely cottage but wasn't as clean as it should have been, the beds were super comfortable and clean but needed a good dust and clean in the kitchen, the stairs carpet was dangerous as you stood on the spiky treads when going up and down stairs which was quite painful and other guests did not clean up after their dogs in the garden apart from that, if the stairs were sorted I would return and all in all it is a lovely cottage with plenty to do in the village

Nicely laid out with exceptionally large main bedroom, gorgeous bedding and furniture. The kitchen had all the pots and pans we needed for our stay. Lounge as expected with sofa and small TV but this wasn't an issue for us. Central location to visit all the places we like in Northumberland, would recommend and go again.

“We had a lovely time at Lansdowne, which was a last minute break with our 3 dogs.”

The only thing I found was we could not fathom out how to work the heating.Luvkily it was very mild so we only used the small heater upstairs, and the log burner. The log fire was fabulous and easy to light, however it would maybe be helpful to say logs weren't included in the price and possibly the option to pre order for arrival.Luckily there was a small amount there for our first night , but we had to then search around where to buy some for the rest of our stay. Also the garden to the rear is a bit messy ,and not easy to find the dog poo as we found some from previous occupants. All in all we had a lovely time , and would book with you again .

“We had a lovely holiday and the cottage was comfortable however the description of the facilities is inaccurate particularly in relation to the outside.”

The front is terribly overgrown and needs attention, the bins were already full and the recycling didn't accept glass. The back garden was dismal and only really useful for the dog as it was secure, there was no furniture to sit and eat at and garden rubbish had been left in a wheelbarrow at the back and not removed. We were asked to clean all crockery and put back in cupboards of which is absolutely fine however given we had rung sykes to say a review has been left about chipped cups I hope the cleaners do actually check items!

Garden lovely but could be superb with a little care(weeding, planting with perennials etc). Dog walking paddock nearby a bonus, as we're welcoming locals at the shop and lovely cafe/bakers.

“We had a very comfortable few days enjoying the peace and quiet.”

As mentioned by others, the garden area would benefit from some attention. That said, it was lovely to see lots of birds in there, they clearly love the wildness. We had everything we needed in the kitchen but some of the cups have small chips on the rim which annoyed my very particular partner. I'm not a fan of beams for the obvious reason they collect dust and cobwebs. We had to re-home a large spider from the bedroom. The Village Inn was a friendly place and popular with locals, again, all very friendly. Good selection of ales. We would be likely to book Ashdowne again if going back to Northumberland.

“Lovely cottage in a fabulous location.”

We had everything we needed in this cosy cottage for a pleasant family stay in Northumberland. We ate out at The Village Inn pub a few times, really nice food and good value for money. The village has great amenities and there’s lots of really good attractions near by, even Holy Island was less than an hour away. Cragside, Alnwick and Seahouses all worth a visit. Not sure if it’s a Sykes thing but we were slightly disappointed that with a 7 hour turn around between check out and check in you have to strip the beds yourself before you leave.

However the garden was awful and in desperate need of some regular maintenance. Dogs are allowed at the property and as normal you are expected to clean up after them, this is virtually impossible unless you follow your dog around 24/7 as the weeds are knee high and everywhere. Not much fun if it rains either. The garden would definitely put me off returning to the cottage.

“Ashdowne cottage is a perfect base for a holiday in Northumberland.”

Very central location for the coast and the countryside. The village has good amenities including dog friendly pub, bakery, general store, and butchers on the doorstep. We did plenty of walking with the dogs on the coast and in the beautiful Coquet Valley. Lindersfarne is a must see. The cottage itself was perfect for my husband and myself and 2 dogs, clean, tidy and all we needed was provided. Only downside was the garden, not very tidy but as we were out most of the time and with a nearby dog walking field in the village we didn’t need it. Had a great stay and would defiantly return.

“Ashdowne is a comfortable, cosy cottage in a great village location making it easy to explore many parts of Northumberland and its numerous attractions.”

It's well equipped although could do with some extra plates and cutlery and some larger cooking dishes to be able to cook comfortably for four. The village has brilliant amenities - two pubs (both serving good food), a corner shop, a paper shop and a brilliant bakery/cafe. There's also a play area and a dog field a short walk from the cottage. Such a shame the cottage was let down by its garden which catches the sun for most of the day - it would have been lovely to be able to eat alfresco or just sit and relax with a book and a cup of coffee. Great for a family of four with nearly teenage children but I would have been concerned if the children were younger as the twin bedroom is directly opposite the front door and some distance from the main bedroom. All in all we had a brillliant time at Ashdowne and would definitely recommend it as a good place to stay.

Longframlington is a lovely village which contributed significantly to the enjoyment of our holiday. Excellent local shop, pub, cafe and butchers. Also a local dog walking field which was useful. The cottage itself suited us well for 2 adults, 2 teens and 2 dogs. Plenty of hot water. Can't comment on heating or fire as didn't need to use. Good WiFi which was a bonus for the kids! The only downsides were a broken bin in the kitchen and a very dirty washing up bowl. Also really good to have an enclosed back garden but a shame it was so full of weeds - anytime the dogs (spaniels) went out they came back in with grass seeds and goose grass! Overall we would recommend and would return again.

“Nice cottage - Longframlington is a nice little village well positioned for getting to lots of places with a good pub (maybe two, but we liked the first so much we kept going back), and a wonderful bakery (The Running Fox).”

It's an hour or less from all sorts of interesting things inland, or on the coast. Cottage was very clean apart from crockery/glasses where it might depend on how good at washing-up the previous occupants were. And there's a window with no curtain at the top of the stairs to the bedroom which means you'll be flashing the street going to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

The cottage was listed as pet friendly with enclosed garden. The garden was unusable. It was completely overgrown the weeds and grass are at least 8 inches high. Most annoying of all is that we stayed in the same cott last September and had no hot water for the first day. Really couldn’t recommend this property

“A very comfortable cottage.”

The front door would be better if not self locking!! The bath flexed under your feet when showering. The main problem was lack of hot water, the boiler did not respond to demand from any of the hot taps. This has been mentioned before in reviews. The garden could do with a tidy up but having said all that we enjoyed our stay and Max enjoyed the dog field. The village was very friendly and adequate for all our needs.

It’s a great base for visiting Northumberland and the borders. The cottage is dog friendly and there is a dog walking enclosed field to walk dogs and the Villagers are very friendly.

The only thing that let it down was the garden. We had lovely weather while we were there and spent time sat in the back garden but it was overgrown with grass and weeds. Even so we would deffinately go back. We can also recommend Greens Butchers in the village.

“We have stayed in many holiday cottages over the years (first time in a Sykes cottage) and there has always been local information in the cottage - walks, pubs, eateries, dog friendly beaches etc.”

These are usually provided by previous guests in a 'visitors book'. Also useful phone numbers like a local GP, vet, chemist etc. The TV in the cottage had a BT TV package but we could not use it, it was not set up, what's the point ? Though the cottage had wifi there were no password details ? There were no instructions for TV, heating, microwave. The cottage could also do with a bit of TLC, loose tread in doorway, bare patches on the wall, the upstairs bedroom had lots of cobwebs on the light and beams and the bedside lampshade was broken. The window at the top of the stairs definitely needs a blind, (previous visitors have mentioned this) especially as the only bathroom is downstairs. Also the garden needs some tidying. Having said all this, all of which are easily fixable, the cottage was cosy, comfy beds, in a nice village and good for the dogs.

“The cottage was lovely and clean.”

Very cosy and and was perfect for 2 children, 2 adults and 2 dogs. The only let down is the bathroom, where the bath is very flexible when standing in it and we tried to run a bath from the bath taps and there was no hot water running through it. There is also a bit of bare wood showing on. The left hand side of the bathroom sink. Which just made it feel slightly half finished. However, having said this, the cottage is perfectly located in longframlington and has all the essentials that you would need. I would definitely recommend to other people.

Kitchen in the cottage lacked worktops to use to prepare food and was installed more for looks than function (v limited space to store food as well ) Cottage was clean, warm and comfortable) A blind on the window at the top of the stairs would be good. The hot water supply gave us no problems (contrary to previous reports ).

“Really great cottage accomodation, listed accurately and I was able to live chat With Sykes Cottages to ask about the hot water issue that had been raised by previous people staying, which meant we understood how to manage ensuring we had hot water.”

We did have the flush on the toilet break so water was running, in the bowl, for over 24hours. They had a plumber come and Maria our contact was great to speak to but it was the next morning after I had texted the out of hours number. My expectation was to receive an acknowledgement that the message, and problem, had been recorded. No compensation has been coming as I was told it would be by Maria. The location is great, really enjoyed the opportunity to walk from the village, the corner shop is well stocked and the butchers very good.

“We did have a problem in that the kitchen had no hot water.”

We rang the numbers supplied and they talked us through it, seemed to be ok for 24 hours but then went cold again. If we put the heating on, we seemed to have hot water in the kitchen but it wasn't cold enough to warrant having the heating on so we ended up boiling the kettle or filling the bowl with hot water using the shower. I noticed there were other comments about this in the guest book going back to July and assume the problem has still not been resolved. That aside, the cottage was lovely. Had everything we needed, was cosy and comfortable. Clean and tidy with a lovely master bedroom. Plus it was ideally based for all the village amenities. Would definitely recommend and use again.

Spotless on arrival and appreciated the complimentary bottle of wine! The decor is lovely and very cosy with a fantastic bedroom upstairs. Nice to have plenty of outside space at the back. Just a couple of negatives, however. The heating/hot water needs sorting (could be a problem if staying in winter) and the bath is very flimsy - feels like you are going to fall through it when using the shower (I'm not overweight!) and there is no fan in the bathroom. Another small, basic thing - could do with some more kitchen equipment - trays for oven and more than two wine glasses would be good. That said, would recommend this cottage and would return.

“Lovely cottage very well located centrally for touring around Northumberland and beyond Best nights sleep I've had away from home as extremely quiet at night and comfortable bed Easy access to local towns 15 minutes to Rothbury and Cragside both are highly recommended places to visit 30 minutes to Alnwick and Amble An hour drive to Berwick Up Tweed and Holy Island The only downside is the the back garden , it would only take a weekend to tidy it up so there is somewhere to sit having a drink in the evening .”

“Beautifully renovated cottage very conveniently located and ideal for dog owners as the surrounding area is so dog-friendly (apart from The Granby Inn in the village!”

) The village even has a designated dog walking field which is less than 5 minutes walk from the cottage. We have already booked again for next year!

A the rear garden was a sun trap and had the facilities to sit outside unfortunately the state of the garden was a disappointment as it had not been looked after everything else was spot on

The village of Longframlington sits at the heart of rural Northumberland, between the Cheviots and the coast and provides great access to a range of great walking opportunities. Brinkburn Priory is a pleasant, short drive away - a restored Augustinian priory in a most lovely setting beside the River Coquet. Just 10 minutes’ drive to the west is the National Trust’s Cragside House and Gardens, whilst the Heritage Coast is just a 15-minute drive to the east, offering miles of clean sandy beaches. The historic town of Alnwick, with its impressive Castle and Garden, lies just 11 miles to the north and is well worth a visit. With the spectacular National Park also within easy reach, this superb base is ideal for exploring Northumberland or taking a relaxing break!
